So basically we need that Milwaukee win to put Washington in play, right?

Then it's hope for a Pacers loss to Orlando. Not sure if that will happen---Orlando has nothing to play for.

So if the Bulls, Wizards, Bucks, and Pacers all finish with the same record, what the heck happens?

I believe the Bulls win the tiebreak with Washington, so a 4-way finish would be seeded:

5. Milwaukee

6. Indiana

7. Bulls

8. Washington

With the Bucks and Wizards playing each other tomorrow, I believe the Bulls can clinch the 7th spot with a home win Wednesday against the Raptors.

So we should root for a Pacers loss and Bulls win and we'll get the 6 seed?

If the Bucks, Pacers and Wizards all lose their final game, they Bulls would get the 5 seed. (Washington 1-1 over their final two games, beating the Bucks and losing to the Pistons.)

Stay away from the 5 please. I want New Jersey, definitely not Cleveland.

I agree. The Bulls match up horribly with the Cavs. If the Bulls play the Nets, I see a very competitive series. However, the Cavs would probably sweep the Bulls. Six seed, please.

Here, I'll play out every scenario, since the Bulls game will be the last to happen, and only 3 other games matter:

Scenario 1 (Best case scenario if you like the Nets):

- Milwaukee beats Washington (Milwaukee is 5 seed)

- Indiana loses to Orlando

- Washington loses to Detroit (Washington is 8 seed, Indiana is 7 seed)

- Bulls: Locked into 6 seed, their game is meaningless (win ties them with Milwaukee, where they lose tiebreaker, loss ties them with Indiana/Washington, where they win 3-way tiebreaker)

Scenario 2 (Best case scenario if for some reason you like the Heat):

- Milwaukee beats Washington (Milwaukee is 5 seed)

- Indiana beats Orlando

- Washington loses to Detroit (Washington is 8 seed, Indiana is 6 seed)

- Bulls: Locked into 7 seed, their game is meaningless (win ties them with Milwaukee and Indiana, and they finish last in that 3-way, loss ties them with Washington, where they win tiebreaker)

Scenario 3:

- Milwaukee beats Washington (Milwaukee is 5 seed)

- Washington beats Detroit (6 seed if Indiana and Bulls lose, 7 if one of them loses, 8 if both win)

- Indiana game is meaningless (well, not to them, to the Bulls...win and they are 6 seed if Bulls lose, 7 if they win) lose and they are 7 seed no matter what)

- Bulls: Win nets them the 6 seed, finishing second in the 3- (or 4-)way tie with Milwaukee and Washington (and/or Indiana). Loss nets them the 8 seed, as they lose the tiebreaker with Indiana, or finishes behind Indiana.

Scenario 4 ("best" case scenario...only case Bulls can get a 5 seed):

- Washington beats Milwaukee (Milwaukee is 6 seed if Pacers and Bulls lose, 7 if one of them loses, 8 if both win)

- Washington loses to Detroit (Washington is 5 seed if Pacers and Bulls lose, 6 if one of them loses, 7 if both win)

- Indiana game is meaningless (again, to the Bulls outcome, not theirs...win and they get 5 seed if Bulls lose, 6 if the Bulls win; lose and they get 8 seed if Bulls win, 7 if they lose)

- Bulls: Win nets them the 5 seed, winning tiebreaker vs. Washington (and/or Indiana). Loss nets them the 8 seed, losing 3-way tie with Indiana and Milwaukee (or just tie with Milwaukee).

Scenario 5:

- Washington beats Milwaukee

- Washington beats Detroit (Washington is 5 seed)

- Indiana loses to Orlando (Milwaukee->Indiana are 6-7 if Bulls lose, 7-8 if Bulls win)

- Bulls: Win and they are the 6 seed (and the only team to finish 41-41), lose and they are the 8 seed, losing the 3-way tiebreaker with Indiana and Milwaukee

Scenario 6 (worst case scenario):

- Washington beats Milwaukee

- Washington beats Detroit (Washington is 5 seed)

- Indiana beats Orlando (Indiana is 6 seed)

- Bulls: Win and they are the 7 seed, lose and they are the 8 seed, losing the tiebreaker with Milwaukee.

Hope that all makes sense now.

Washington pulled it out last night, which simplifies the scenarios a bit. No spots were clinched, but it's now a guarantee that Washington will finish higher than Milwaukee.

- If Washington wins, they are the 5 seed.

- If the Bulls lose, they are the 8 seed.

- If Washington loses, the Bulls cannot get the 6 seed that everyone seems to covet. The Bulls would get the 5 seed if they won.

- The only way the Bulls get the 6 seed is if they win, Washington wins at Detroit, and Indiana loses at home to Orlando.

- If Washington, Indiana, and the Bulls all win, the Bulls finish with the 7 seed.

Go Bulls! Hopefully they win easily tonight, and the Magic can beat the Pacers. Then I'm ready for some Bulls playoff basketball!

I'll just wait for the playoffs to actually start to find out who the Bulls play. The above scenarios just look to hard to figure out who I should be cheering for or against for seeding purposes.

Orlando down ten to Indiana at the end of the first quarter. Come on Magic, do the Bulls a favor.

Damn. I was hoping Orlando would play them tough like they did us.

Same here. Oh well, looks like Indiana has it wrapped up. Hello, Miami. Bulls will just have to pull off the upset on their march to the NBA title.

6 seed is now out of play thanks to Indiana's win. Either 5 or 7 is still available, pending the Washington-Detroit game, and Washington seems to be pulling away.

Not a good end to that quarter there. When the Bulls score 68 points in one half, I expect them to be up by more than 10 at the half. Come on Bulls, pick up the D.

The Cavs get to 50 wins by hanging on against Atlanta!

And New York is going to beat New Jersey which means the Cavs get screwed out of the 3 seed! Fantastic!

Not sure what you mean by the latter comment, NJ had the 3 seed already by virtue of winning the Atlantic.

Playoff schedule: (ET)

Game 1 - Saturday 4/22, 8 pm ESPN

Game 2 - Monday 4/24, 8 pm TNT

Game 3 - Thursday 4/27, 8 pm (TBA)

Game 4 - Sunday 4/30, 1 pm (TBA)

Game 6 will be on Thursday 5/4 if it happens - rendering my Game 6 tickets useless because I have a final on 5/5 :(

I think the Bulls will split 2 at home with them, so the key to them doing anything in this series is somehow taking one of the first 2 in Miami.

whoever wins the first game will win the series, IMO.

Huh?

I'll be happy if the Bulls can take one game. There's no way we take this series. Not one chance. How do you figure us being competitive?

I know about NJ winning their division, it's just ridiculous that the Cavs(or any other team) are precluded from getting the 2 or 3 seed just because they have the best team in basketball. They finished with a better record, they deserve the seed.

Or how bout the Clippers getting home court advantage as a lower seed?

If NJ had something to play for its last week, I doubt they would've sat their starters and lost to Philly and NY to end the season. I completely agree that the seeding system needs to change, but the Mavs got screwed by it, not the Cavs.

By the same token, the Cavs had nothing to play for for even longer with the gap between them and the 5 seed, but yeah, I don't get why they can't have a second place team at the 2 or 3.

They could do this, but I think the setup is essentially the same as other leagues.

I think Chandler needs to be really physical with Shaq (elbows, step on his feet, etc.). If we can get him banged up and frustrated, I think we have a shot.
