After signing Rusch to an extension when he yet again bid against himself for his services I am at the point where I have no more faith in Hendry to get us to the playoffs in 2006. What do you guys think?

I think Jim Hendry will put together a team capable of making the playoffs in 2006. Then again, he put together quite possibly the most talented Cub team in history in 2004 and Dusty and Co. ensured that we missed the playoffs that year. So you never know.

I think Hendry can put together a decent team that could make the playoffs if they had a competent manager. Of course he hired the manager in the first place so I will decide about Hendry after this off season.

This is just plain ridiculous. No One can provide any transaction that Hendry has made (other then Andy Sisco) that he has been on the complete losing end.

So Hendry signs a LH Swingman for $3 million a year for only 2 years. Wow, he has really handcuffed us with that contract. I mean if Rusch is completely ineffective that $3 million will stop the team from doing anything positive.

The idea of this poll is really saying that the RUMORED Rusch deal (not official yet) is the make or break transaction of the offseason. Forget the closer & setup guys that Hendry pretty much saved from the scrap heap.

Guys, Hendry is not part of any problems. Hendry is bar far one of the better GM's of the Cubs and its time not to nitpick but actually step back from a single transaction and look at the whole body of work.

He is part of the problem. We did not make playoffs two year straight and were 4th place in our division. Yeah, real winners..

What's that mean? Are you saying that no other teams would have offered Glendon a contract? Because I think that's false. I don't like this rumored deal one bit, but let's not pretend that Hendry is "bidding against himself."

And to answer the poll question... no, I honestly don't have faith in Hendry anymore. He just doesn't seem to understand what this team needs.

Just because other teams offer Rusch a contract doesn't mean he's bidding against himself. If Player A gets a bunch of offers, and the best of the offers is 5 million, you're bidding against yourself by offering 10 million. It's the same thing that happened with Maddux. Someone would've taken him, but there was no indication anyone was going to go nearly as high as Hendry did.

Hendry gave a contract to Burnitz when nobody really wanted his services. A pretty hefty contract at that. Same iwth Maddux, nobody wanted to grab Maddux and we gave him a VERY generous contract, very. Rusch had an option on the Cubs for 2MIL instead of waiting for it or not Hendry decided to sign him to a 2 year deal worth 3mil per. Since he was not a free agent, yes he bid against his 2mil option contract.

That's not true, Pittsburgh was very interested in Jeromy.

Pittsburgh was not going to give him the money Hendry did.

I have no faith in a man who not only traded for Jose Macias, but re-signed him. He also gave a raise to Alfonseca, and lets Dusty get away with his crap.

He overpaid for Maddux, and waits far too long on potential trades, FA signings, etc.

This should be Hendry's last shot.

Yes, he brought in Lee, Ramirez, etc, but he's made more boneheaded moves than good ones.

Hendry Has done some amazing things. Look at the team he took over, and todays team. He has pulled of some great trades. Nomar, Lee, Ramirez. Great. But he has also done some increadably stupid things. Maddux (the contract is horrible), MACIAS, Dusty's crap, totally ignoring simple things like OBP. So, i dont really vote w/ either of those options. I'm somewhere in the middle. I have SOME faith in him. But if he doesnt can dusty, That hope will fade away.

Not anymore. Overpaying to bring back two players who sucked butt last year is asinine. A competent GM would have sent them a Christmas ham and wished them well in their pursuit of employment elsewhere

Do I have faith hendry can get this team to third place in our division? No.

i was going to refrain from voting in hopes that JH would pull his head out of his arse, but then he signed Nefi to a 2 yr deal :wall:

i'm nearing the end of my life long love affair with the Cubs

JH is clearly clueless :pukel:
