If the White Sox win the World Series, I will feel very sorry for my Cub fan friends that live in Chicago. It will be a horrible place to be for quite a long time.

Those of you who are Cub fans cheering for the Sox to do well. Shame on you! When you see the wrath that will be Sox fans spewing forth venom towards Cub fans, maybe you will soon understand.

In the meantime, us mods are gearing up for a very busy troll season.

I decided long ago that I was rooting for the Cardinals against the White Sox. Cardinals fans are nowhere near as obnoxious and don't have an obsession with the Cubs like White Sox fans do. If the Cardinals won a world series, they'd cheer amongst themselves for weeks before they decided to say anything to a Cubs fan. The first thing that'll happen if the Sox win the world series is I'll get about 15 calls on my cell phone and every Sox fan I know will come up to me and start screaming in my face.

I went to a party tonight to watch game2 and it was a blast. I hung on every pitch and we all cheered like mad dogs whenever the game went the Sox' way. Am I a jerk to have enjoyed the game? Ever since I moved to Chicago my social circle has been very North/South Side integrated and none of us are hateful people who would wish failure on our friends' team. If the Cubs were in the World Series I'm sure I'd see the same crowd of friends partying and cheering.

I couldn't disagree more . . .

I grew up in chicago in the 60'-70's. I went to Sox and Cubs games, probably 95% cubs games though.

I am first and foremost a cubs fan by a long stretch, but I LOVED some of those sox teams and loved alot of their players (fisk, gamble, luzinski, some great pitching, etc...). I said before I hate the sox like I hate a brother, but I will stick up against anyone else who calls either one of us out.

There is NO COMPARISON about how I feel about the 'stros, fish, dodgers, cards, etc. as compared to the Sox. I hate those teams because we PLAY against those teams, they are the competition. The Sox are not. I find it hard to hate 1/2 of the city I love, although, like others, I do not find it hard to hate an entire state (texas... shiver....).

You should hate the team, not the fans FIRST.

To suggest that I am not a real chicago baseball fan because I don't hate the sox is kinda a weird position to take...

I also grew up without interleague play and never considered the Sox rivals.

I just simply don't want to hear every dingbat sox fan run his mouth for the next 10 years, or at the least until we win a world series.

If you don't live in the area, you just don't understand how obnoxious it really is. Sox fans are loud, coarse, classless jerks. They care first and foremost about the Cubs doing badly. Just look at the way the White Sox structured thier marketing campaigns in the last 5 years. The organization is a joke as well. There are, at best, 3 players on that team that you can respect. The rest are absolute tools, led by an appropriate classless figure.

I don't buy the "championship for a great sports town" thing. The Chicago White Sox and their fanbase are not the reason this is a great sports town. Loyalty, tradition, hard work-those are the qualaties that make Chicago a great sports town. The Sox couldn't even sell out their much improved stadium more than half a dozen times this year with a 1st place team. Their fans are generally a joke. Fans left after Jenks ' blown save last night. Who leaves a WS game early? Yet, these will be the same jerks that will enjoy rubbing our noses in their season if they win 2 of the next 5 games.

im cheering for it to be over asap, so the offseason can start.

You want Rich Aurilia on the team so soon?

oh man. don't ruin my morning.

Watching this World Series is like watching two of the ugliest people you know making love….it is repulsive to see, but you just can’t turn away.

Say what you will, but the Sox are truly playing championship baseball. As much as it hurts to say, I'm pretty sure the Cubs would have lost both of those games to the Astros. I hate the word "fate", but the Sox surely look like they have someone looking out for them (and don't say the umpires!)

Actually, I'd just as soon take the high road, and not act like the fan base I despise.

Would be nice to see the city win a championship, even if it is the Sox. I never consider the Sox a rival but for 6 practically meaningless interleague games.

To be honest, I'm embarrassed by the attitudes of some of the posters here towards the Sox. It's really become a pot-kettle situation.

I don't buy the "championship for a great sports town" thing.

"Chicago sports" fans buy that rubbish. "Cub" fans don't.

How does it feel to be filled with so much hate and anger?

Hateful and angry. The World Series is about to be forever tainted, and our fellow Cub fans are facing relentless persecution in their own city.

What other reaction could one feel in the face of this travesty?

Most of my Sox fan-friends from Chicago root for the Cubs. Sox-fan aquaintances, on the other hand, are annoying. I was happy for the people at the game with me, they saw a great game with what was, for them, a great outcome.

Of course, the 20 or so Astro-supporters in the stadium were pretty unhapppy at the end.

I think I've stated pretty clearly what other reactions one could feel, so I won't bore everyone by repeating myself.

Yup, we've been facing persecution for, ooooh, 90 years now? AND WE ARE THE LOVEABLE LOSERS remember..... How does this change that?

Do the sox winning change how you feel about the cubs? Increases your self loathing perhaps?

Doesn't change it for me. I will never change my allegiances from the cubs no matter what, not even by a %. What anyone else says, whomever else wins, whatever knuckleheaded people or moves the organizations undertakes, I'm a cubs fan.

This "you aren't a cubs fan if you do not hate the sox" is lame. Is your love of the team that tenuous? What about all the other teams that have been kicking our tushes for all of my life?

No Cubs fan's devotion for the team should change because the Sox win the Series (assuming they win 2 of the nex 5 games). The problem is all the insults and abuse Cubs fans receive from fans of the Cardinals, Marlins, Yankees, Mets, etc. will now also come from White Sox fans. And I'll guess that Cubs fans interact with Sox fans more than any other team.

I can't stand the Cardinals. I despise the Astros. I wish the Marlins franchise would just die. I don't hate the Sox. But I'm not looking forward to the taunting and insults that are about to be thrown my way by the end of this week from Sox fans.

OK OK - I guess the point I was trying to make when I started this thread is simple -

You can't cheer for both teams . . . I find it hard to believe that real Cub fans can root for the Sox - I just don't believe this "It's for the city" stuff. Don't get lured into the fact that part of the town is celebrating and you're not . . .it will make it a lot less sweet when the Cubs win knowing you cheered with the Sox!! Those of you who are doing it . . and not admitting it . . . it will come back to you . . .I promise!!! Don't get caught up in the celebration just because it is in your backyard!!!

Again, I don't live in Chicago - but In NY - it is trash talk city when the Yanks win and the Mets loose - I know how the Met fans feel every year . . .

I KNOW it is the same in Chicago -

We've been losing forever ... but this is different. I love this team, and I don't want to see those who have been spitting in our collective face for generations derive joy from a championship they frankly don't deserve.

If the Sox win, most of those overjoyed with the conclusion will be people who despise the Cubs, and most of those despondent over the conclusion will be dyed-in-the-wool Cub fans. I don't know how anyone with Cub ties can miss that.
