Unbelievable how we couldn't get in on this. Just damn unbelievable

Yeah it would have been nice to see the CUbs at least try to get in on this but it would appear it wasn't just about money for Leo as he turned NY down. This is all purely my opinion but in addition I think it was either working with Perlozzo or staying put.

According to some rumblings I've read (at SoSh and elsewhere) Mazzone wanted one big payday and Atlanta wasn't gonig to pony up the kind of cash he wanted. Not taking the NY job just means he didn't want to deal with Steinbrenner and the Tampa Mafia, the NY media, and the assembled crap they have on their pitching staff.

And it would have been nice for Hendry to show at least cursory interest in the best pitching coach in the game.

That's going to be a pretty tough gig in Baltimore. Facing two of the best offenses in baseball 34 games a year. Then you have Toronto who is looking to make a splash, and then you have Tampa who will soon bring up all those flashy hot hitting prospects.

The Orioles might be expecting Atlanta Brave type success and I'm not so sure they'll get it.

But, he is sitting back quietly with his cards close to his vest as the world slips right on by.........

Just like it did last season. Or maybe I'll get yelled at again for thinking Hendry has to get everything done by a certain time...

Actually, in this case he should be criticized for moving too fast, right? Didn't he re-sign Rothschild before it came out that Mazzone was available? If he had held his cards tight, he would have been more able to jump on this. But because he did what everyone is clamoring for -- moving fast -- he missed this opportunity.

Be careful what you ask for.

You're backwards on this one, though. He moved to fast to re-up with Larry.

We missed the opportunity to get the best pitching coach in the game. Sweet. This is going to be a disappointing offseason.

don't have any expectations then you won't be disappointed.

Well, I want him to work fast to improve the players on the team. He had no intention of replacing the coaching staff, which to me is a problem. Had he gotten rid of the coaching staff, there would have been a nice opening for a new pitching coach.

Somehow, the Yankees found it possible to make time to contact the Braves to get permission to talk to Mazzone. What was Hendry doing? He wasn't cutting Macias from the team. It doesn't appear as though he's working on getting Walker's option picked up. When's the last time he talked to Nomar?

Don't criticize Jim's haste. He is moving slowly on declining Burnitz's option, so everything evens out.

I'm not criticizing his haste. I'm pointing out that some people are complaining that Hendry is moving too slowly on his offseason decisions, but one of the two quick ones that he has made has now come back to bite him in the arse.

So maybe haste really does make waste is all I'm saying.

I was being sarcastic. REALLY sarcastic. I wish he would decline Burnitz 10 minutes ago.

I'm criticizing the length of time he takes to make a decision. He's now over 365 days late in cutting Jose Macias. :D

And two years late in deciding not to trade for him in the first place.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'd rather he take his time and make the right decision than be hasty and miss opportunities. As long as the right decisions happen, I'm willing to wait.

But that 4 year offer to Giles better be in Jim's hands when he's knocking on the door at 12:01am on the first day of the free agency period.
