We're capping year three in what has been a hellish trilogy for Cub fans. Hope for anything good in the world of sports is dead.

06- Indians. Keep with the AL trend.

EDIT: So their WS-victory streak isn't as long as the two Soxes and the White Sox haven't won it all yet, but details...

His point was that the three longest WS droughts possibly ending in reverse order.

But it's not going to happen. I don't believe in destiny at least where sports are concerned, and I don't think the Cubs will win it all next year, and unless we have a great offseason this year we won't win it in 07 either, making the drought a century.

I love this team and I'd never stop being a Cub fan...

but...

it's just hard sometimes.

I know, it was just my way of noting I didn't think it would be destiny and the Cubs would be next because of that...

i think we clearly know that God hates the cubs, so i cant see their streak ending next year. it would be so typical because everyone is going to say, well now its the cubs turn. and its going to be even more typical when the cubs somehow make the playoffs and blow it again. i dont believe in destiny, and i believe less that the cubs will win in my lifetime (im 20 years old).

on a side note, the white sox are on a freakin roll, same as the red sox were last year. i dont see them losing in the world series. it would be really really nice if the cubs could play like this just one year, where everything went their way, and they caught fire at the right time. i wish things were different...

that pretty much sums up my feelings (right down to me being 20 years old).

and ours is coming soon, I think.

I think our time to break this drought is coming.

I'm an optimistic man but I think the Cubs time was 2003 and they messed it up. Imagine...Cubs in '03, Red Sox in '04, White Sox in '05. Haven't seen anything quite like that since the Rangers and Red Wings won back to back years in the NHL to end epic droughts.

As opposed to all the success and great fortune the Cubs had pre-2003?

I believe in destiny too. I believe the first 97 years of this lousy destiny are going to be exactly like the next 97. My lifespan will be mercifully shorter than that timespan, thank God.

We've talked about this before. The misery has been more intense and more public over the last three years.

This has been the worst post season I can remember, I'm 33.

Whoever posted that God hates the Cubs is absolutely correct.

Whoever posted that the World Series is in my hometown, yet it feels a million miles away, I completely agree.

Whoever posted that the 2003 was the one shot for us Cubs fans, was right.

The Cubs three biggest rivals are in the playoffs. Two of which are guaranteed to be in the World Series. The Cubs have regressed in each of the last three years in all facets of the organization. The light at the end of the tunnel has gone dark. This is the worst I've felt as a Cubs fan in my entire life. The game I've loved and played from the time I was 5 years old through 22 and every instant in between, appraently hates me.

The world is a cruel and cold place today.

I could not possibly agree more. If being a fan means having to deal with this level of utter misery, baseball be damned, I have a life to live.

I like the optimism, but out of curiosity, how long have you followed the Cubs closely? Are you a "veteran" of '84 and '69, for instance?

I don't believe in destiny, as that has burned me a few times (mainly in the romantic arena). I do, however, believe in good fundamental play, and the chumps I've seen the past couple years (exceptions apply) and retreads I've seen throughout the years on Cub teams apparently have not.

If I see the Cardinals and the Astros in the playoffs again in '06, I think I may take an extended sabbatical from Major League Baseball. My growing suspicion is that there are unwritten rules in MLB, none of which favor the Chicago Cubs, even in the rare events when the team has a chance to do something.

IMO God and destiny have nothing to do with it. If the Cubs really want to win the WS it will hinge on the players we have, the manager, and most importanly how successful the GM will be. Hendry better get to work.

true

It's not luck, fate or a curse that has kept this team from winning, it's gawd-awful personel decisions, repeated over and over.
