How did this team win so many games? Erstad? Finley? Cabrera? No lefties? I don't understand how this team wins. Since Dusty hates walks, maybe this is the model Hendry should be following.

If the Cubs had Vlad and GA at the corner OF spots, they would have won a ton more games too... not too mention the Halos pen.

vlad and lee are pretty much a wash. so you figure nomar/ramirez is a wash with Anderson. so the big difference is the pen? I guess team speed and the ability to put the ball in play. I would prefer a lineup balanced with different kinds of hitters, but considering dusty, maybe we should go for the speedy contact guys.

I wish I could still ask the question of why Neifi! batted 2nd for the Cubs today...

Oh well. I hope I never have to ask that question again.

Yet, with Baker boy there's a chance that we will HAHA.

Good pitching and good defence. The Angels only commited 1 error in this series.

Oh and they led the league in RISP average. Weren't the Cubs near the bottom??

Go ahead and argue that it's not something you can plan, but you have to admit it's why they've scored so many runs. 11th in ops and 7th in runs.

What's the mean?

That's a significant reason for their success. They've hit in the clutch this year.

Their success with RISP does make up for their other deficincies on offense. The success might not be attainable in future seasons but it is one of the main reasons they have been able to win with a below-average offense.

It was just an observation someone made. They hit well with RISP, thus why they were successful.

Why is this having to be dissected to the nth degree again?

And Raisin in turn made an observation about clutch hitting in general. Funny how that works.

Since they led the league in average, it makes sense they led the league in RISP average.

By the way Nefi had very comprable numbers to cabrera and better than everett, also uribe did not have a high on base. 3 of the final 4 teams have low on base excellent defending shorstops who by the way had excellent risp totals . I believe contact guys have a chance to do so. Regardless of obp. Again nefi took way to much crap on this board. You win with pitching it beat big hitting again. Our pitching has got to get pushed back up to 2003 levels. Obviously i would not cry to see a couple more on base type guys added. But no Nomar at short , he is not up to par defensively. That is a big deal. God Bless and go Bulls

Old correlation doesn't mean causation argument. Just because some playoffs teams have defensive shortstops, doesn't mean that's the reason they made the playoffs. The White Sox are a seriously flawed team. Angels' offense isn't all that great either.

Cub dad. I dont disagree that Neifi has value as a player. He shouldnt be batting at the top of the order though. It is even worse to have him at the top with the Cubs being so bad at RISP. Also when the season was over not giving Cedeno(before he was hurt) more of an opportunity was also silly. If Cedeno wasnt sitting on the bench most cub fans would have been ok with Perez this year.

I would predict that the Angels take a dramatic fall next year in runs scored unless they improve other areas in their offense.
