Why can't the Braves sell out a playoff game? Big sections of the stadium were completely empty for game 1. Are the fans there just so accustomed to going to the playoffs every season that for them the LDS is like the regular season? Or is it that they're so used to seeing the Braves eliminated every year that they don't bother? Atlanta is a very big city, the team has a proud tradition, they've got exciting players, so I don't get it, but it is like a running joke about Braves fans at this point.

Anyone living in or from the Atlanta area that can shed any light on this?

Atlanta is a terrible sports town. There are lots of people transplated from somewhere else. I do think the drew about 2.5 million fans this year though.

The Braves have a very solid, consistient fan base, but for some reason have a hard time selling to the casual fan. The Braves will always sell around 25,000-35,000 tickets to every game, but rarely have sell-outs even on the big games.

When I've attended Braves-Cubs games, I always mett Braves fans that are scattered all over the deep South. My guess is a lot of Brave fans aren't in Atlanta which likely makes attending the playoff games difficult. F

Finally, I'm sure 14 trips to the playoffs with only one WS title has jaded them somewhat. I'm sure that if the Braves advance, you'll see sell-outs for the LCS and WS games. My guess is that a lot of casual Brave fans just don't get worked up for the LDS.

And they will spank the Cardinals! :D 8)

I'm just hoping they can get by the Astros for now. Even though I'm seven hours away, the Braves are my hope for being able to attend a WS game this year.

No roadtrip to MMP?

From my information, those tickets have all been pre-sold to season ticket holders and those who bought packages, etc.

When I went to the Braves-Cubs series in 2003 (and half the stadium was Cubs' fans) I talked to the Braves' fans around me...yeah, the NLDS and NLCS aren't anything special to them. To quote one of them, "They just become a different team in the playoffs, a bad one. Its hard to get excited anymore."

I'm with Vance on this one, the braves have a big big fan base scattered all across the Deep South and given the distances, can't make it to alot of games. There is also a huge amount of Cub fans down south thanks to WGN.

They probably know that their manager is terrible in the post season. Almost anyone can win consistently with the players he has been given over the years, as the Braves have arguably the best advanced scouting and player development personnel in the league. But Cox makes some terrible game situations (ie pitching around Berkman to get to Ensberg).

Some say Cox is underrated, I say he's overrated.

Not to overly defend Braves fans, but Game One was scheduled at 4pm, and many people that I talked to here could not attend due to work. Additionally, traffic in ATL is godawful every afternoon, throw in a Braves game and it's gridlocked for hours, so there are always more fans that show up late. Still, Braves fans in general are pretty nonchalant about the playoffs, even the most hardcore ones have no confidence in their team come postseason play. Kinda sad...

Well I am going to Game Two tonight (taking public transportation, thank you very much) and I would like nothing more than to see Clemens get absolutely shelled

If my memory serves me correctly, and I very well could be wrong, because it was some time ago, but didn't the Braves not sell out one of their WS games in '95?

They were all sellouts, but tickets weren't going for all that much on the secondary market. "Soft" sellouts.

I think the strike really took the wind out of that fanbase. Fulton County Stadium was an electric place during the 1991, 1992 and 1993 postseasons.

Those ganes were at Fulton County Stadium though. Attendance has decresed every year since Turner opened.

I live a few miles from the stadium and I can tell you that Braves fans are as boring as Bobby Cox.
