I feel more confident in Murton than I did in Dubois. Hopefully, the results prove me right.

Ditto. I would feel nervous in having him be our starting left fielder on opening day, but there should be an expectation that it is his job to win.

Let me point out that I did like Dubois. I don't want people going back in the archives and showing my Dubois support posts. I did want Dubois starting, but it took me a while to come around on him as UK would attest.

Murton can still hit, and interesting to see Koronka possibily getting some trade value for someones pen picking up the save today.

Call me crazy but I think last year would have been much different for Dubois if he didn't have to look over his shoulder every time he went to bat or played in the field. He never had chance in that platoon system. And neither would most rookies.

Brandon Wood is scary.

Could a strong showing here and in Spring Training earn Sing a bench spot in 2006?

I'm really hoping for a couple kids to get bench jobs. I see a few of them doing as well as some $800,000 veteran.

But I think I'd like to see a good outing by Sing vault him into valuable trade chip this winter. The Cubs need to make moves, and the more assets the better.

Totally agree.

While Mesa pounds Peo Saguaros 16-4, Cubs prospects fail to make much noise.

1.) E. Patterson (2B) 1-6, 2R, 2K (.208 AFL BA)

5.) M. Murton (LF) 1-4, RBI (.500 AFL BA)

6.) B. Sing (DH) 1-5, 2RBI, K (.368 AFL BA)

Alex Gordon is moving to first base for the rest of the AFL season. :-k

A continuation of the Royal's policy of moving every decent position prospect to first base.

Even if Sweeney is traded, they already have Huber there. :?

Isn't their current top prospect a 3B? Maybe they're anticipating Gordon and Butler being at the same level next year?

Billy Butler was moved from 3B to LF this year, apparently he really isn't that good on D. I've read that he too could end up at first base.

Anyone know why Koronka is on the AFL roster? Doesn't seem like he has much big league potential to me.

The Cubs have some guys they're going to risk loosing in the rule 5 draft if they don't make any room on their 40 man roster...especially if they make a run at a couple of FAs like Furcal, Giles, Howry, Saenz, etc...I'm guessing they're trying to showcase him so they can use him as a trading chip. I hope he keeps his AFL streak up and raises his value. If he does well in the AFL, I'd be willing to be he probably gets traded this offseason.

A lefty that can occasionally get guys out can always find work in the big leagues. Koronka could likely make Kansas City or Pittsburgh's rotation right now, though granted that's not saying a lot.

I wouldn't say that about Pittsburgh. They have some quality arms (all LH too) in their rotation.[/b]
