This is what I think will happen, not what I want:

Walker-gone

Nomar- gone

Neifi- gone

Macias- gone if FA/ stays if arbitration eligible

Burnitz- gone

Rusch- stays

Patterson-stays

I really think this is the off-season Hendry goes nuts. I expect a bunch of trades & a couple big FA acquisitions. Getting Dempster locked up the day before the season ended is a signal JH is ready to make it happen.

One of JH's main objectives is going to improve the defense, which = Walker & Nomar gone

But, as I've said before, I am NOT in favor of improving the defense if it means our already pathetic offense takes a hit.

I think Burnitz, Nomar, Patterson, Neifi, and Walker are all gone. I seem to recall a quote from Dusty recently to the effect of "Walker was mostly an offensive second baseman". (paraphrasing, but the past tense was definitely there) Not a good sign for Walker sticking around.

I think the middle infield and CF are very much dependent on one another. If Furcal is signed, I'd imagine a combo of Cedeno/ Hairston at 2B, putting the onus on Hendry to find a CF with a little power, ie. Vernon Wells, Ken Griffey, etc. The same is true if Luis Castillo is somehow brought in. If Nomar is resigned, or if (how unlikely?) M. Giles is to be had, then we might just see Lofton out there until Pie is ready. So the lineups could look something like this:

Castillo/Furcal

Murton

Lee

Ramirez

B. Giles

Wells/Cameron/Griffey/???

Barrett

Cedeno

Or...

Lofton

M. Giles

Lee

B. Giles

Ramirez

Garciaparra

Murton

Barrett

Is Brian Giles really all that likely? Is there a snowball's chance in ___ of getting one of those CF, or seeing Murton and Cedeno in the same lineup outside of September? It's great that Hendry has the money to make something happen this year, but it should be real interesting to see if he can do it. I like the 2nd lineup a whole lot better, but I think it would take a miracle to put together.

C-Pat--goes

NOmar???

My guess is this:

Guarantee to be in Cubs uniform (don't forget Iowa, fellas) in 2006:

Wood

Prior

Z

Maddux

Demspter

Barrett

ARam

Lee

Blanco

Everybody else, their future will be decided before December.

Depends on how much input dusty has

Macis can play any position and hit over 280, He stays

Perez played well, dusty wants him back

Walker goes, just doesn't click with dusty

Murton is still young, if dusty can convince hendry to make a deal for an older power guy, Murton goes

Roush stays

Cedeno stays

Garcarpia goes

Burnitz Goes

Patterson Gets traded

That's it! Dusty is dyslexic.

Neifi will be back, you can bank on it.

Nomar will be gone, as will Walker and Macias. Rusch will go too. Some team will be willing to overpay for him. Burnitz is gone.

Hendry will have to go crazy if he wants us to get into the playoffs. Here are the players I would like to see gone:

Neifi

Macias

Rusch

Burnitz

Patterson

Nomar - undecided because of his offense but his defense is terrible and he is a risk to be injured again. More than likely HE GAWN!!
