I don't know if anyone else caught it, or if it has been addressed elsewhere, but Peter Gammons on BBTN said that there was a possibility that Dusty could wind up in Arizona. The reasoning was that Jeff Moorad was Dusty's agent who arranged the deal to the Cubs. Of course, Moorad is now in the D'Back's front office. Gammons said that perhaps some sort of "deal" could be done, but thinks Dusty will likely be offered an extension to stay.

Probably Moorad helping an old friend get some bargining power. I hope Hendry doesn't fall for it.

I don't think Moorad is the sharpest knife in the drawer. I could see him bringing Dusty in. In fact, its the only scenerio that I've heard of that I think is remotely plausible to get Dusty out of Chicago.

Let the trade talk of Dusty for Connor Jackson begin!

Hell, I'd be satisfied if we got a bag of BP balls and a fungo bat in return.

I hope you're right JC...except I'd rather have Quentin. :D

That would be the perfect out for Hendry.

Jim probably thinks he can't fire Dusty since he placed all that faith in him in the first place. He also probably doesn't feel like having Dusty be a lame duck coach in the offseason. If AZ was crazy enough to give the Cubs something in return for Dusty it would make my year. How about they take Dusty and Macias, the Cubs get Gonzo with AZ picking up a chunk of the contract.

That would be a good place for Dusty. He'd get to play in Cali far more often. The media would be less abusive. Plus I hear the desert has great fishing.

Can managers be traded? I seem to remember Pineilla getting traded to Tampa, but I'm not exactly sure.

Yes, Piniella was traded to Tampa, sort of:

By Jim Callis

October 28, 2002

In a move initially reported during the World Series but not officially confirmed until Monday, the Mariners released manager Lou Piniella from his contract so he could return home to Tampa and skipper the Devil Rays. As expected, Seattle received all-star outfielder Randy Winn as compensation—but Tampa Bay also received a player, infield prospect Antonio Perez.

No way Dusty would let Gonzo go. He's the only guy Dusty would trust because of his age.

"Dusty to Arizona?"

Personally, that's not far enough. But, I'd trade Dusty, Neifi and Macias to Arizona for a bag of desert sand.

Heck, the diamond backs are one of the teams that Neifi COULD start for. Although we really wouldnt be trading him would we, unless we sign him in our exclusive period and then trade him.

Dusty to anywhere but here. I will even pay for his coach class ticket anywhere to the 48 states. Hendry if you are reading this, I'm being serious I will pay for the plane ticket to get the man out of town.

Wouldn't he need manager class?

If this happens then poor Carlos Quentin and Conor Jackson, not to mention Stephen Drew.

I was going to say that even Dusty couldnt keep those guys out of the line up, but Tony Clark's season would have bought him 3 or 4 more years in a Dusty line up.

Dusty, Neifi, Macias, and Burnitz to the D'backs for Quentin and Valverde. It's a deal.

Good thing you're only going to have to use one hand to continue counting those championships. LOL

Tims suggestion of Williams for Quentin is very interesting. Both teams are giving up a quality young player. This is why Hendry has built up the arms race to take advantage of oppurtunites like this.
