MLSnet.com[/url]"]Oh, and did we mention Chicago Cubs starting pitcher and 2005 MLB All-Star player Carlos Zambrano? Originally scheduled to coach the "Clark Street Crew" side, Zambrano decided to take the captain's armband and play up top for the blue team instead. Playing the entire match, Zambrano even spent some time in goal for the Clark Street Crew.

CBS-2 Chicago had some video of Carlos kicking a ball around and then making a nice header during the game. Not only did he look great in a soccer uniform, he clearly has skills.

Well, God forbid he ever blows out his arm.....

Even if he wouldn't be any good in the pros, I'd still pay to watch him.

Heck, I'd pay to watch him run in a race.

I think it's really cool that he did that, but how on earth did the Cubs allow it? I guess at this point in the season it doesn't matter if he turns an ankle or blows out his knee or something like that.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, I was just watching highlights on CSN and he looked great out there, but I couldn't help but think of Aaron Boone.

I heard on the radio that soccer is a part of his off-season conditioning program in Venezula.

The Venezuelan national team could do with him, in whatever guise.

Though, from what I saw tonight, Huddersfield Town could do with him too. And that I would pay to see. Though I pay to see them without Z, so you can argue a point about it being inconsequential.

OK, you win, he can stay with the Cubs.

Edit - is it the done thing to argue with oneself? Too late, I guess.

We all know that Zambrano going to be the closest thing to human perfection to walk the Earth in this Century, so if he wants to play some soccer, then it is the right decision. End of story...I wonder if he has more chops than Nomar. I guess he talks himself up to Mia a lot.

I really think that the Bears should sign him as their strong side linebacker. He would make Ray Lewis look sane.

Big Z and Urlacher on the same defense! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

He could take tackling lessons from Kyle Farnsworth

LMAO. The Farns, Urlacher, and Big Z on the same defense! That would be murder. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

If you haven't read my whole sig, Taverez is on my off-season wish list.

I, so I take it that it won't be cool then if he signs w/ the Cubs?

Absolutely NOT. He has some skills, but he was a chump as a Cub and is an even bigger chump now. Your man was the one who drilled Nomar in an at-the-time meaningless game vs. the Cards. That tool aggravated Nomar's back.

As to Z, as an all-around athlete, it's good for him to have some fun... especially since he's been one of the few players we could count on for the past couple/few years. So, great, play futball... just stop sticking up your pitching hand to snag liners, El Torito!

not at all.

he's a cheater and a headhunter.

i want him nowhere near this team.

I think him, Todd Hundley, and Ismael Valdez are all neck and neck for the player I would least like to have back on the Cubs (and that says something considering how bad the other players are).
