I wasn't talking about them per se, i love nomar and wood, it just accomplished nothing.

Yeah, I know.... but you could argue just as well that nothing that has happened all season accomplished anything.

But, if they're shutting him down, why wait to have surgery? Why not do it ASAP so he has longer recovery time?

According to this press release, Kerry will be having his surgery this Wednesday.

The Cubs announced Monday that Kerry Wood will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Wednesday.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Timothy Kremchek at Beacon Orthopedics in Sharonville, Ohio.

I hope they shut down Ramirez regardless. I want to see him 100% healthy from start to finish next season.

I hope they get Ramirez on some kind of physical training program next year. Can you imagine what he would be like if he wasn't so "soft".

So, who are the Cubs going to call up to take Wood's roster spot?

Remlinger was just DFA'ed, so I'm guessing they'll pick him back up and sign him to a three-year deal.

But hey, it was sure nice of Baker to give Wood another inning of work before he goes under the knife.

Baker and Rothschild are clueless beyond belief.

It seems like the Kerry Wood surgery news (or possible non-surgery news early) has always been portrayed as minor shoulder problem with a quick recovery likely. It appears that the possibilities that this is much worse than anticipated are possible and should have always been anticipated. We never seem to catch a break, so here's hoping we catch one now - unless the break is in Kerry's shoulder...

Tribune: "Unless Kremcek discovers a tear in the labrum or rotator cuff, the Cubs expect Wood back by spring training in February, looking to regain his old spot in the rotation."

Sun-Times: "...hope the exploratory procedure will find nothing more serious than the fraying around the rotator cuff and labrum that is causing Wood pain and inflammation after throwing more than 50 pitches."

Daily Herald: “Dr. Kremchek obviously felt that with his studying of the MRIs and his experience that it would be nothing that would stop him from being available once spring training opened,” said Cubs general manager Jim Hendry. “We’re not in a situation (in the standings) like we wanted it to be to have it done in late October or November.”

Cubs trainer Mark O’Neal said Wood has experienced normal “fraying” in the shoulder and that short of an unexpected development, such as a tear in the labrum, Wood should be fine after a winter of rehab.

This is scary stuff. If it turns out there is more than just the fraying in the shoulder, heads should roll after Wood was brought into the game last night. In my mind its completely inexcusable to bring a pitch in a game when its already declared he'll be shut down in two days. There's no benefit whatsoever by having Wood pitch last night. Was it some last hurrah for this season? Why run the risk? Why???

So that he could get that cool standing ovation when he walked off the field.
