There's an article on the front page of ITI saying that Scott McClain has been promoted to the Major League club. He'll be activated before the game today. Looks like we'll get to see Die Hard get some starts at 3rd base. :D

Here's the article:

How could they not call up Murton with Lawton getting traded? Grrr...

Can't Murton not come up for a few more days? I think there is a rule that says you have to stay down for X amount of days. He'll be back soon.

Yeah, you're right. I read that about Murton after I made this post.

I didn't know McClain was still in our system. He was the one that hit a whole bunch of homers last spring training, right?

Yesterday they put Murton in CF. Perhaps they want to give him some more time there while at Iowa so they can see how he does before his 9/1 call up.

Another possibility is that they are showcasing Hollandsworth for a trade.

Finally, having someone that has experience playing 3rd would be a plus. It's also a nice way to reward a guy that's been a good soldier for the organization. Promoting McClain sends a ray of hope to all the other system guys that they might too get their moment in the sun.

What I don't get is why we would bring McClain up who has no future with this team when we could get a look at Fontenot. It makes no sense to me, which is starting to be expected from this organization.

Agreed. You are right though lately almost all of their moves have been questionable.

This move is probably like the Greenberg move in July. He is probably getting rewarded for a good season at AAA. Don't worry, the youngins will be up in 5 days.

That's what popped into my mind too. They're giving Scott a nice encouraging pat on the behind for a good season by making him the DL-callup.

Season is f'ed anyways might as well let the guy that has over 200 minor league home runs and a veteran of Japan "fight" his way back to the bigs, and give him a month of the good life.

I agree the season is done, but what's a more prudent move: rewarding a career minor leaguer who has no future with your big league organization or letting a player who may have a future with the team get a longer look at major league pitching?

I think the answer is obvious which is why I can't fathom this move. I like McClain. He seems to be a hard working, nice guy. But, Fontenot is a player who likely has a greater future with the organization and these could be valuable at bats for him.

To put that in perspective, Fontenot is going to be up in 5 days, so it's not THAT much of a deal. Neither Fontenot or McClain would have/will get much time in those 5 days.

Vance, I agree. The one thing that comes to mind is that the Cubs may want to move him too?!?! What if he comes up and plays really well. Maybe you can package him w/ Holly for a great prospect........

But you only have four more days to move him....I just don't see that as a possibility. And even packaged with Hollandsworth we won't get anything more than a mediocre prospect. Career minor leaguers who play well in four games have little to no value.
