Please use this thread for any questions regarding the roster...

Now according to MLB.com the tea has 41 players on the roster. But they list Bartosh being on the roster but he was "outrighted" earlier in the summer so this accounts for that.

My question is about Greenberg. He is still listed as being on the 15 day DL. But he is playing now for the Jaxx. How long can a rehab last officially before it is necassary to take him off the DL?

In Greenberg's case it doesn't really matter as he is in the option years.

I think it might be 7 games for position players and longer for pitchers but I'm not positive. If the player is a vet he can agree to a longer rehab assignment.

I know Mark answered this question on the boards before. If you do a creative search with mlpeel as the poster, I think you can probably find the answer.

when does jvb & his 2.00 era get added to the 40 man so he can get called up in sept?

Never. Not that I don't want him called up, I just doubt it will happen.

The Cubs have to make a decision on JVB as he'd be a likely rule 5 casualty if not protected. The problem is who do you cut to make room for him?

As far as Hendry and Baker are concerned the candidates would be

1. Another minor league like Leicester, Rohlicek or Koronka

or

2. a position player like Hollandsworth, Burnitz, Macias or Perez.

I don't see #2 happening. I don't believe Hendry wants to give up any of those other pitchers for free.

It's possible one of those guys could be traded for a PTBNL to clear a roster space. That's assuming someone would want any of them.

If number 2 doesn't happen then we need to clean house of this group if we ever want to be competitive again.

#2 will happen but not until the offseason. With any luck 3 of those 4 will be gone. In the offseason Hendry can try to trade some of those pitchers that don't figure to be key to the Cubs' plans (those mentioned above) or some of the other oft mentioned young pitchers (Wellemeyer, Mitre and Hill)

If we wind up losing JVB to rule 5 and guys like Hollandsworth and Neifi are still on the 40-man, I vow right now that I will never EVER watch another Cubs game until hendry is Tarred and Feathered (or at least summarily canned).

That being said, I don't expect to lose him.

So why is Chad Fox still on the 40-man Roster??? I thought he was out for the season. Are they expecting him to come back?

Welcome!

Fox is on the 60-day Disabled List, which means he is not taking up a spot on the 40-man. Players on the 15-day DL remain on the 40-man, but not players on the 60-day. If and when a player comes off the 60-day DL, a spot has to be open for them to come back to.

Holla will NOT be with the Cubs in 2006.

I agree, he will not be a Cub next year either and my intuition tells me that Macias wont be here either. UNfortunately, I think Neifi will but I hope he won't be either. It's time to clean up the bench among other things.

Does anyone know if Wood can be put on the 60 day DL this late in the season? If he could that would open a spot for JVB.

That's exactly what I was thinking. JVB has to be given a chance in Sept. He's done too well in the system over the last 2 years to NOT give him a chance. There's many ways the Cubs can and should get JVB on the 40 man for a Sept. Call up and they can make their decision on wether or not to protect him next season. He DESERVES it.
