It looks like Brownlie gave up an unearned run be looking up at a 2-1 deficit. My boy is sporting a pretty nice line through 5 innings: 4 hits, BB, 4 Ks, 1 earned run. ERA is down to 4.12.

And the 1-man bandWGN keeps on rollin' :D

Ugh, after tying the game at 4 the bullpen for Peoria gives up 8 runs in the 6th & 7th.

Through 8 innings there were 39 LOB between both teams?!?!?!?!!?!?

I should take your advice. I was bragging in the game thread about how well Hill was doing through the first 3 innings in his last start in the majors. Then he completely fell apart in the 4th inning.

bartosh also got lit up, jinxy mcgee. any other of your favorite players whose career you'd like to ruin?

and i'll stick up for brownlie a little by saying that i don't think he's pitched into the 6th inning much lately. of course i could be wrong, but i thought i'd give it a shot.

The Chiefs score a run in the 9th but fall 12-5.

The game featured 33 hits and 46 LOB

I think they must have updated the boxscore, because it now shows 19 LOB between both teams. The Chiefs have been just abysmal at being able to score with RISP lately.

The Boise Hawks web page lists this under Transactions:

ok, figured out what I was doing. The 46 LOB was in the total ABs. 19 players LOB total but 46 LOB in the total ABs.

CUBS COMPLETE SWEEP OF DODGERS WITH 6-4 VICTORY

The Daytona Pitching Staff Flirted With A No-Hitter, While The Cubs Offense Also Found Support From A Few Familiar Sources

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—Just when everyone thought they had the Florida State League Eastern Division figured out, the Daytona Cubs recently decided to flip everything upside down.

Surging ahead towards a final run at a 2005 playoff birth, the Cubs threw the entire division a curve on Thursday as they completed the three-game sweep of the first place powerhouse Vero Beach Dodgers, winning by a final score of 6-4.

Cubs starter Randy Wells (8-2) was the big story early on as the right-hander shined in 5.1 innings of work, while he held the Dodgers to no runs or hits and struck out six for his eighth win of the season.

The Daytona bullpen then kept the no-hit bid going until the top of the eighth frame, when Dodgers designated hitter Xavier Paul lined a double down the right field line with one out to break up the “no-no.”

Offensively, the Cubs made their statement early against lefty Chuck Tiffany (10-7) as they scored a run in each of the first two innings, including a solo homerun from Issmael Salas in the second that gave Daytona a 2-0 lead.

The Cubs then blew the game wide open in the sixth, as they scored three runs on three hits, highlighted by a big double from first baseman Brian Dopriak who finished the game going 3-for-4 with a pair of two-baggers and a run scored.

Vero Beach refused to go quietly however, as they staged a late four-run rally in the eighth, capped off by a two-run homer from shortstop Chin-Lung-Hu to bring the Dodgers to within one at 5-4.

But Daytona persevered as the Cubs added a final run of insurance at the plate in the eighth after pinch runner Jeff Culpepper scored on a wild pitch to give Daytona a two-run cushion. It was then righty reliever Lee Gwaltney who closed out the game the old-fashioned way with a two-inning save, as he finally sent down the Dodgers in order in the last frame to notch his third save and preserve the Cubs victory and series sweep.

With the series sweep the Cubs have now won four in a row as they improved to 25-27 on the second half, as the Dodgers fell to 31-21.

A Look At The Cubs Playoff Chances:

With the Palm Beach Cardinals also winning on Thursday night, Vero Beach and Palm Beach are now in a virtual tie for first place, as the Cubs are six games out of first. But if the Dodgers still win the division in the second half, then the East will go into a wildcard format to choose a second playoff team based on who has the best overall season record, which would give the Cubs a .5 game lead on both the Cardinals and St. Lucie Mets with less than three weeks to play.

Speaking of the Mets, the Cubs will usher in St. Lucie to Jackie Robinson Ballpark for three games starting on Friday. Daytona will send lefty Chris Shaver (2-1, 1.61) to the hill to make the start.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.

Mesa's box is up. Rough start for Pawelek, but looks like yesterday was a good night for those who own Olin Wick baseball cards.

And now that he's in the lineup, it might be easier to get those cards on EBay. :)
