At least he is showing more paitence at the plate, which is a good sign. There have been numberous of times where he worked the count up to 2-0 several times IIRC.

He didn't look very good last night, but I have no problem excusing his performance against a LH like Pettite.

I thought he looked like the old Corey in one at bat last night otherwise...I've been impressed with his approach..It been a treat to watch him lately..Not alot of first ball swinging..

I've noticed that, too. I thought it was going to be a slow road, and I think it still will, but I've been impressed since his return.

Corey has a nice career split against Oswalt:

12-39, 4 doubles, 2 hr

Corey's lift and drive stroke lended itself well in the past to the Oswalt sweeping slider. It should be interesting to see how Corey's approach is tonight against him.

I didn't get to see the game last night, but Ron and Pat were commenting on how Corey is holding his hands higher now then before. Ron made a comment that Gene Clines suggested it, and that Pat Listach (batting coach in Iowa) worked with him to accomplish it. He also said Listach and Clines talked almost daily. Ron said that Corey's swing is quicker with his hands high.

I think the important thing with Patterson is his patience. If he can get to a hitter's count, then the "quicker" swing that Ron is talking about will help, but I don't think it will do him much good to have a "quicker" swing if he is down 0-2.

Corey killed Oswalt in the minors too.

It always helps to have a faster swing because that means the hitter has more time to determine if the pitch is a ball or a strike. Amazing how he is working deeper into the count and getting better pitches now that he has the faster swing!

it's reassuring to hear that the cubs' AAA hitting coach accomplished something in three weeks that our major league hitting coaches couldn't do in three seasons.

I came up with .276 also......

08/09 - 08/16 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
Patterson 29 6 8 1 1 1 14 4 2 6 0.276 0.323 0.483 0.805

That doesn't include Wed's game where Corey went 0-4.

Do you mean "reassuring" or "sad"?

Even as a CPatt skeptic, it looked to me as if he changed his approach at the plate in the few games I've had a chance to watch recently. But the stats look the same.

Cpatt has changed his stance a little bit and his hands are a little bit higher, but he still has that loopy, upper-cut swing. Until he changes that he's going to still have the same problems he's having now.

I've been catching all the games on the radio recently, and I keep hearing Santo tell me how Corey is swinging down on the ball since he came back up. It's somewhat disturbing to hear you say that he's uppercutting it again.

There's no difference in Patterson (10-42, 2 bb, 1 eb hit). He raised his hands but so what ? His approach at the plate is brutal and the reason he got away with the loop at triple A is because no one's ball moves. I'm sick of his play already. It's time to give the reigns back to Hairston.
