I agree with all of you...he is frustrating at times, but I think you need to keep putting him out there and hope he has a solid last month or so and can end the season on a positive note coming into spring training.

Yes, I do want him back. What other options do we have right now? Grossly overpay for Damon? Bring Pie up with absolutely no experience over AA? Start Hairston, a reliable utility player as your every day center fielder?

What expectations do you have of Corey next year? If you mean bring him back for his defense only, and to be pulled for a PH every, and I mean EVERY, single time he comes up for a crucial AB, then I'm fine with it.

My expectations are for him to be the every day center fielder, hit .270 and steal 25-30 bases. I don't think you give up on someone with that much speed, power and ability. Not yet. This is still the same player who was on his way to an all-star appearance before the ACL injury.

If you offer a legitimate upgrade at center field, I'm all for it. I don't however think Pie is ready to be the every day center fielder next year. Intriguing prospect but it's too soon.

The problem with Corey is that he still hasn't learned to take a walk, so if he hits around .270 or so his OBP is going to hover around the .300 mark and that's just not that good. I still haven't given up on him, but things have to change drastically for him to succeed in the majors.

So when exactly do you give up on Patterson? '07, '08?

Understand this, I don't necessarily want Patterson off the team, but he should take Hollandsworth's spot as 4th outfielder.

I'm not saying the cubs set an arbitrary date of giving up on Patterson. My point is you keep starting him and keep working with him until you have a better option. If that means tomorrow via trade....great. If that means '08 when/if Pie can claim the job...great.

I think we can all agree this season is over. Why not keep him in the 8th spot, give him a little stability every day and see what happens. I think he's having some quality at bats recently and I see a reason for optimism.

What would benefit the Cubs or Patterson if you benched him the rest of the year for Hairston?
