Strickout by C. Pat Ugh poor due. I bet he was thinking he couldn't wait to come back and show everyone what changes he's made and the progress.

Totally down in flames for him.

the game is still early though.

3 runs next inning 4 the next then a couple more gets us a win. No problem.

If people want to rip Corey at least be fair and boo Burnitz as well. Corey has 1/3 of the amount of hits as Burnitz in 24 fewer ABs in August

I think at this point, they could care less about that fact

I'm sorry, I realize that many here are disappointed with the team and disappointed with current results and current managerial direction, but isn't there a line that you don't wnat to cross as a fan?

For example, I watched Major League 2 (I Know) but the Randy Quaid character seems very similar to many people here. Lifelong fans who give up and start to heckle everything that happens around the Cubs. He came to realize that this wasn't the right attitude (mind you the winning helped) but it leads me to think what would it take for everyone here to turn around the attitudes.

We mock them because we care. It's like what Ike said to Tina Turner, "I hit you because I love you, baby."

does anybody know why the reds took freel out?

Len just said Freel was taken out because of a strained right quad.

No offense but please NEVER compare ranting about a team to physical abuse. Domestic issues are NOT something that is good comedy.

I'm a big fan of Jim Hendry and what he's done so far, but if he doesn't fire Dusty soon then he's got to go too.

And what is it that he's done? Yeah, he's improved the minor league system, but where are all the supposed studs? Over the last five years, what position player, right now, is the top prospect? Murton? Well he's not even a product of the Cubs system. If you're fond of Hendry then you should really be fond of Walt Jocketty, who seems to turn everything he touches to gold in St. Louis, with less of a payroll.

How about Hendry turning guys like Choi, Bobby Hill and Matt Bruback for Aramis Ramirez, and Derrick Lee. Or how about finding guys like Brendan Harris (he will still be a very good player in the majors, he needs the right team) Kyle Farnsworth, Sergio Mitre outside of the Top 5 Rds of the MLB Draft.

Look Hendry is no innocent victim here, but he doesn't get AS MUCH blame as Baker and the players. Look at this way, he won't have to deal with Sosa and ego this offseason, meaning he can go to work earlier this offseason, legitmating improving this team.

Yeah, we have Ramirez and Lee, but that doesn't overshadow the fact that in the offseason everyone, I mean everyone, said we needed a LF, lead-off man, bullpen and OBP for 2005. He addressed none of the areas. I think people take criticism too personal. I don't hate Baker and Hendry and several of the players on a personal level; I know none of them. I love the Cubs and want at the very least a NL Pennant. And I won't hold my tongue for those who I feel are the most responsible for this team's failure this year. The good news is I can't honestly see this team losing 12 straight, so we may win one against the Cards. Or will Houston lose again tonight and keep our hopes up?

hendry got rameriz because he was horrible with pittsburgh, they were paying him a bunch of cash and he hadn't produced since he signed his big deal...he had 23 errors in half a season there...they dumped his salary- they did not try to get equal value...it worked out but it was a huge gamble.

same with lee, he was aproductive player who was due a big raise that florida as a frabchise usually does not pay...they got a young cheap guy they hoped would develop. hendry's best move

we were a game from the series just 2 years ago and we had just a few things to do in order really take a shot at it ...now with all of hendry's genius we are worse than cincy. that's right we are the 2nd worse team in the central and maybe only better than the dodgers and rockies in the league...yeah, great job of putting together a team!

Burnitz might be playing poorly lately but his BA is roughly equal to Corey's OBP. Burnitz has been average, which was what he was expected to be this year.... Corey has been really awful.

we may be behind cincy by the end of the weekend. i am very sure we will finsh behind them for the season. the truly scary part is that pittsburgh could be 5 behind us after today.....

there is one man who should bare the brunt and that is jim hendry! this is a god awful team.....the managing is bad but would we win anything with anyone else managing? i think not.

the players are bad, and many should be looking for elsewhere to play

dusty has been dusty

hendry put the 2 together....let's start over.

We may not have been champs, but this team would have won a lot more games with a good manager, there is little doubt of that.

Both are accountable.

I don't know how you can say little doubt of that. Have you seen the bullpen's ERA all season? Have you noticed how many games they've lost in the 8th inning this year. It's okay for you to hate Baker, but no manager would have turned Burnitz into a .310/370 hitter, no manager would've prevented Barrett from throwing to third too early. The OBP of the team wouldn't have been better and Maddux would've still had the same kind of season under a different manager. This team is bad because of the players, manager, and bad decisions by the GM equally.

I don't know how you can think Dusty hasn't cost us games. For example, how about if Dempster started the season as closer (as Hendry suggested before ST), Rusch had started from the beginning (when he was awesome), and Hawkins and Fox (had Dusty not ruined him) set up Ryan. There's 6-7 games, at least. Dusty decided at the last minute to throw LaTroy back into a role everyone knew he couldn't handle. Dusty ran Fox out there three days in a row when he shouldn't even have pitched back to back early in the season, and watched Fox throw 30 pitches in a blowout on a night when he had nothing until his elbow failed (watch him do the same thing to Williamson, who shouldn't even have pitched yesterday....wait..."I'm not a doctor, dude").

Or how about if Walker had been leading off after he came off the DL instead of the pitiful duo of Patterson/Perez, while Lee was still hot? Or batted Ramirez behind Lee for protection? Or Benched Neifi for Cedeno after a month of Neifi with a sub-.600 OPS? Or played Dubois while he was hot instead of watching Holla nearly go 0-for April? Or had clue one about how to manage a pitching staff?

GAH.

How can anyone sit there and even suggest the Cubs would have the same record with a good manager? It's inconcieveable. Hendry sold the team short, for sure. But there is no mistaking that Bakers total imcompetance has cost us as much.

When has Hendry ever added what we needed. Since 2003 its been the same thing over and oevr. Closer(bullpen), Bench, offense, leadoff you name it.
