Lee's at-bat killed us. In all of our losses, all you have to do is look at the 3-6 hitters to see why we don't score runs.

I wonder if his shoulder is right. But, then again, his strike zone is entirely different right now than when he was locked in. Remembering how he stopped hitting late last year, could his early (though extended) surge brought on an earlier season downfall?

True, but that breaks the hearts of your fans too quickly, you have to do it slowly, one stab at the heart at a time

Now THAT is how you waste runners at 1st & 2nd, with no outs, without a double play...IN STYLE!

Say what you will, but we lose brilliantly....

(laughing through the tears....)

No, the best way to waste runners would be with a triple play. That keeps the opposing pitcher to a minimum of pitches.

His strike zone may have changed because he is compensating for the injury. And he is surely pressing. I'd like to see him get a couple days off and see what he looks like afterwards.

Kearns singled to right, Casey scored on right fielder Burnitz´s fielding error.

Yep, sounds about right. That's what I was expecting. Only you can substitute Burnitz's name with anyone else out there.

I'm disappointed that Burnitz is turning into exactly the player I expected the Cubs were getting. I was content in being wrong when he was playing very well.

I think the whole team is nearing implosion. It's Murphy's law out there.

Now that the Cubs got their "threat" of the game out of the way, who now sees the Reds taking control of the game in the 2nd inning?

My guess it will be close until late in the game, but a mix of terrible defensive play and a bullpen meltdown will give it away.

That said, go Cubs, don't screw up!

That's the problem with the Cubs, with Harang---or any Reds starter---it shouldn't be close in the late part of the game. There should be NO reason why a Reds pitcher should even make it to 5 innings. But hey there are positives.....I'm positive Baker will be gone not to long after the World Series.

I believe everyone should be accountable for this mess. And it's ridiculous for Lee in one breath to say they have to win games while he can't see he's hurting the offense if he is indeed hurt. I'm beginning to think that's not the case since he said something prior to the All-Star break and sat. Why wouldn't he sit now? Also, I know we have our favorites on here, but it's not like Lee is a career .340 hitter. Maybe, like Perez, he's just getting back to his normal stats.

I dont' know if its Murphy's Law as much as simply the Law of Averages. Players are returning to their career norms. The level that some were playing above those norms, such as Neifi and Burnitz along with Lee, to an extent, have caused this exaggerated drop.

What are the odds that Burnitz is moved in a waiver deal before August 31st?

Slim. He isn't that valuable. Hendry is about the only guy that has chased him over the last two years. Along with the Pirates, that is. What does that tell you?

Except that his career stats aren't as bad as he has been playing. And he, like Aramis, are probaly playing though injury because the team thinks they are still in it and know if they are going to get offense, it will probably be from those two. Straits were not as dire before the ASG.

So I suppose that eventually they will have a streak of flawless fielding soon? That has been a big part of their losing streak, and it is definitely not explained by the law of averages. They aren't a great fielding team, but they are way better than this. I don't think the law of averages really applies to te Cubs.
