The Cubs need to start with this next game. Just this game matters and no other game but this one. Stop looking at the score board and begin playing in this next game.

I still hold a hope that the Cubs can get one last big push in the 2005 season that'll thrill me before I concentrate on football.

Magic can happen

Lighting can strike

Flex the diehard muscles you all claim to have during this time of year and believe a little.

I just watched this movie, and it kind of fits in here.

I am with you Scott!

D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.

Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Otter: Germans?

Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.

Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...

[thinks hard]

Bluto: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!

[runs out, alone; then returns]

Bluto: What the (blank) happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my (blank) from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...

Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these (blanks). Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.

Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.

D-Day: Let's do it.

Bluto: LET'S DO IT!

I'm tired of the pissing and moaning Baker did this or didn't do that or he should be fired or we should have traded so and so and got so and so.

This game is enjoyable when you just watch it for what it's worth. This Cubs team is in position to make a run, I don't care about the odds or the schedule or whatever you have to say about how their not going to do it. Just shut up and watch. You might just see a great ending of the season for the Cubs after a lackluster 4 months of .500 baseball.

Don't become the fans that left Dodger statium and missed the Kirk Gibson home run.

Don't become the fans that bailed on the Red Sox down 3 games to the Yankees in the ALCS last year.

Like I told my Red Sox Diehard friend "Watch game 4 tonight and 5 and 6 and 7! You are on the verge of seeing the greatest season on Red Sox history".

He watched and witness one for the ages.

It happens all the time.

It's the Cubs turn now... believe!

I still believe!

Watching last nights game and fighting the urge to change the channel I noticed a couple of things.

Hill might not be to ready for the bigs, the Mets had a wonderful batting approuch, which was sitback and wait ing the slow curve. They did that and rocked. Walks and control problems don't help either.

Our defense makes bad choices. The throw home by T. Walk was an emotional decision based on wanting to win. He made a bad move.

D Lee threw his bat after a bad at-bat. It's obvious that the team wants to win and feels the pressure to do so.

Wood and Williamson were very good.

Nomar was fine, but get him coming off the bench for the rest of the year. He's a liability at this stage of the year.

The Cubs winning streak will begin I feel it. The Cubs have enough time to blow all contenders away.

They just need to start with one.

I missed last night's game. Can someone expand on the 0-4 the boxscore gave, please? How'd he field, how'd he swing? Was he swinging at the first pitches or was he working the count.

I've got a feeling you're right, Scott, about Nomar being a liability. But if I were Dusty . . . er, if it was me managing the team, I don't think I would have the guts to take that risk of letting Neifi start over the former star. The potential for Nomar being a "sparkplug" is too great.

Tapped out to Glavine his first AB on the first pitch. Lined out to LF after several pitches in his second AB. He topped one to Glavine later in the game, and I don't remember his other AB. I definitely say keep him in there. He can't be worse than Neifi.

There's no way Nomar should be a bench player. Neifi produced a .560 OPS in June and a .575 in July, and those numbers are in line with what we can expect for the rest of the season. Nomar can't possibly do much worse than that, and of course he could potentially do a LOT better.

We seem to be having trouble just getting that ONE.

we should concentrate on winning innings at this point.

Agreed.

cubs lost 4 innings, won 1, and tied 4.

thats an improvement over saturday.

Im guessing you don't believe any more, scott

I alway believe! So we continue not to hit and not to pitch. 2 things critical to, ya know, winning a game.

The moment the Team relaxes and stop putting so much pressure on themselves we'll see a prolonged winning streak. The team looks like it's trying to win a series.

Their are not trying to play one game at a time. They seem to be trying to force a 5 game winning streak by winning one game and ya can't do that.

There is alway time to get hot for this team. Until mathematically out of it, their not out of it.

Williams need to be the streak stopper today and the Cubs bats need to reappear and stay for the rest of the season.

Make it interesting for those of us that still believe.

Bump for a win!!

It's hard to really think they are tryign to win every single game when the manager sits two starters when we're already offensively short-handed. If Burnitz needed a rest, they should have not have Macias in center as well. If Walker needed a rest, it shouldn't ahve been the same day Burnitz was out.

That's just forfeiting a game when we can't afford to lose any more games at all.

It's hard to argue with you. I expected to see the name "Lupus" in the starting lineup.

I'm just looking for a boring straght out win from the Cubs. The Reds coming into town might just spark something.

I love your optimism, but don't share it. It was embarassing to watch the game last night. We're lucky we're only 6 out of the WC. I expect us to be out of the race - as if we're not already - by the 15th. By then, even Hendry will have to admit it's a lost season. Sorry to be so down.
