I thought about posting this in the 'Baseball Discussions' Forum, but really, the game was against the Cardinals, which made it very sweet, and thus, it landed here.

I watched the replay, which cut out all the non-scoring half-innings. I want to know:

1) Why did we all think that the puffy-hair look was good?

2) Did you notice that there were no bleachers on the rooftops across from the park?

3) the Cub uniforms were weak, but (much to many Cardinal fans' disagreement) those baby blue Cardinal road uniforms were heinous, and I for one am glad that they went back to grey.

4) Willie McGee hit for the cycle, and got upstaged!

5) Ozzie Smith was awesome. Really, if it wasn't for his great play, I believe the Cubs would have won in nine.

6) God, those baby blue Cardinal uni's were ugly.

7) Did you notice the big hair in the stands (women AND men)?

8 ) It made me feel old.

9) Sandberg WAS great, and deserves every accolade he gets.

10) Props to Sutter, who was in the twilight of his career, but recognized greatness when he saw it.

11) It could not have come against a more fitting foe.

12) It was the first time the Cubs won anything meaningful since 1945, and unfortunately (or fortunately?), it spawned a new generation of Cub fan who not only wants to win, but EXPECTS to win. God bless Ryno, and congratulations

13) Oh yeah, the big glasses/sunglasses look was pretty bad too!

EDIT - Larry Bowa's sunglasses made me laugh out loud!

Can't say that I have ever met a fellow Cards fan that actually liked the blue uni's. I know the whole retro thing is popular these days...but have never heard anyone say that they actually liked those uni's

Chief, I have not seen you around much lately, where ya been?

I'm catching up with you on posts.

I remembered that game (or so I thought) like yesterday, until I actually watched it, and realized how things really have changed since 1984!

Good to see you back.

Well I am in the middle of changing jobs so that has taken a lot of my time. I still check in and read alot of the post...just havn't had time to contribute lately. Can't wait till I get good at my job so I can spend the whole day playing around of the internet when I am suppose to be working!

I was hoping to catch the replay of the game, but I must of missed it. Oh well the ending was bad anyway! :)

Bowa's aviator sunglasses are hilarious. He wore them when he was batting! Classic.

I saw that game on ESPN classic this summer in a hotel room in Chicago. There were a lot of Cardinal fans at that game.

14) All the players were skinny. Even the 'big' players were wirey and slender. I think Keith Moreland was just about the only player with some real beef to him. Today's players are much more ripped.

The way it used to be - just the guys living there, grilling up who knows what to go with their 1pm beers.

i watched the game over the weekend too, and i couldn't believe how small they were either. baseball is a lot more fun today than it must've been back then. half the guys on both teams were just trying to bounce the ball really high and get an infield single. BORING.

But, Since when did it become okay to hit homers and have a slugging percentage??!?!?!??!?!??!?!?!?!!?

Sandberg will KEEEL you.

just a couple thoughts on the game.

first, you'll note that Willie McGee's homerun ball never came back on the field, which I hope will help dispell the myth that throwing homerun balls back is a "tradition."

second, you notice how dusty everything was? it looked like the entire infield have two inches of loose dirt. after a player slid, he came up looking like PigPen. every step created a little dust devil.

third, somethings never change. the Cardinals had a more generous strikezone then, just as they do now.

I've not seen a baby blue uni that I didn't love, and that's the truth.

The 80s were the best years for unis.

Throwing the opposition's homers back is a tradition. . . . just not all fans participate. Who knows, a card fan might have caught the ball.

All your unis belong to me.

I've actually always liked that uniform for some reason.

That was the way it was in '92 when I moved to Chicago. The "for profit" full stadium seating thing didn't happen until around '98

You're a Cardinal fan, so I understand if you're a little off in the head. ;)
