If Jim Tracy is fired, Dusty wants the gig. According to the story, he's putting the word out to his friends to help generate buzz.

Why don't we just trade Dusty for Tracy and call it good?

Nevermind that: how about Dusty for Sgt. Pornstache, straight up?

I'd do Dusty for Edwin Jackson.

In 1979, Oakland traded manager Chuck Tanner to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Manny Sanguillen and 100K. So there is a precedent.

Oh, and Tanner guided the Bucs to a World Series championship later that year.

There's even more precedent than that. I believe Randy Winn was traded for Lou Piniella, and the NFL Buc's got a lot of money and draft picks just to interview Jon Gruden.

This ain't gonna happen, no matter how much Dusty wants it to. If Tracy is fired, DePodesta is not going to hire the anti-Moneyball manager.

That said, depending on how things end up this season, its not in any way out question that Dusty heads for the hills.

October 28, 2002: Lou Piniella is named manager of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Mariners send SS Antonio Perez to Tampa Bay for OF Randy Winn as part of the compensation package.

Forgot about that one. Good call.

I'd trade Dusty for a sack of batting practice balls and a half-eaten salami sandwich.

That would be proof of the existence of God. The best part is where Dusty refused to deny it. No trade Hendry could possibly make today could even approach the excitement I'm feeling right now at the mere mention that Dusty even might be about ready to re-mount the horse he rode in on.

Let the rampant specualtion begin again for the Cubs' skipper job!

Joe Torre, Joe Girardi, Jim Leyland, Larry Bowa, Larry Brown, Phil Jackson, Zim, etc . . . :)

Wow! Zim the Invader would make a great manager. We just have to tell him that the Cards and Astros are dirty earthlings that must be crushed.

...ya ya I know who you meant :)

Anyone think Jim Tracy may be on the way out? The Dodgers thus far have been underwhelming in a very weak NL West, although they have been bitten by the injury bug.

Still, the thought of Dusty Baker in Dodger blue might be enough for management to take a pass on Tracy's 2006 option.

We all know who really should be manager... John Kruk.

And Reynolds and Brantly will be his coaches. And bring Olney along as an adviser.
