Per Rotoworld:

Eric Byrnes - OF - Rockies

The Orioles decided to back out of a potential trade that would have sent Larry Bigbie to the Rockies for Eric Byrnes, TSN's Ken Rosenthal reports.

We're not sure who could have won that exchange of should-be fourth outfielders. Byrnes is the better player, but he's already making $2.2 million and could get $3 million or so next year. Bigbie may soon be shipped to another team, with the Pirates, Marlins and Cubs among the possibilities. Jul. 29 - 5:35

Hmm, I guess I am probably the only one here, but if the Cubs need a CF, since I'm not so sold on Hairston with his ineptness of picking the ball and throwing it in. Perhaps maybe the Cubs should take a look at David DeJesus from the Royals? Problem is that he does not posess speed, however, he is really good at the plate.

.296 Average/.362 OBP/.443 SLG/ .806 OPS.

I've liked DeJesus since the Royals called him up last year and started hitting, but we won't be able to acquire him. He's one of the Royals best young talents and they coonsidered him to be the heir apparant to Beltran. No way the trade him unless the get an equally talented youngster in return. They'd probably want Pie, Murton, or Harvey for DeJesus.

Why would KC trade DeJesus? He fits exactly what they are looking for. Makes the league minimum and is productive.

Yes, he does make the league minimum and is productive, but KC will always trade away their players that they know that they cannot afford in the future, plus that they would take prospects.

Of course, that depends on DeJesus contract status, I guess.

DeJesus has plenty of time before he becomes expensive. By the time he does get expensive, most of the bad contracts KC signed in the early 2000's will be long gone (Sweeney to name one), therefore they could afford to actually give semi-decent money to the better prospects reaching their arby years.

apparently Bigbie was taken out of the Orioles game just a few mins ago.

uhh ohhh

Will Carroll was speculating a Bigbie for Matt Lawton swap earlier in the day.

Oh please, please, please, let that be true.

You said it. JH getting Bigbie to be our LF is completely pointless. His numbers this years are below par and his career numbers in avg/ obp/ slg are almost parallel to Holla's.

I have the White Sox broadcast on right now and Hawk just said something about Bigbie being dealt to Colorado for Eric Byrnes. It kinda sounded like he was only speculating though.

Why would the Cubs want another mediocre left handed outfielder?

It's Derrek Lee, not Derek...

I made it like a year ago and i'm too lazy to fix it.

Looks like Bigbie might be spun to the Red Sox.

Red Sox Dealing for Outfield Help

Short of outfield help in the wake of Trot Nixon's injury earlier in the week, the Red Sox were close to completing a three-way deal last night with the Colorado Rockies and the Baltimore Orioles that would land them left-handed-hitting outfielder Larry Bigbie from the Orioles.

The Orioles last night sent Bigbie to Colorado in exchange for Eric Byrnes -- obtained only weeks ago from Oakland. The Rockies were then poised to flip Bigbie to the Red Sox for Pawtucket catcher Kelly Shoppach and Rule V outfield pick Adam Stern.

Bigbie, presumably, will platoon in right with Gabe Kapler -- due to come off the disabled list today and be activated by the Sox -- until Nixon returns.
