Realistic?

frankly, i highly doubt it. only the red sox know how dire this situation is. from a bargaining perspective, they're not going to come out and say "WE WANT THIS GUY OUT AT ALL COUNTS". if he's not traded, then i think they can live with him. if he's traded for sergio mitre, then i guess they wanted him out.

I do realize that it would take more than Patterson and Mitre/Rusch. That's why I said prospect package. Those guys are just the major league ready guys who can help them now (maybe). Two or more additional talented prospects would have to go in the deal - but under the conditions of my scenario - Pie and Hill might not have to get shipped. But the situation would need to be dire. If it were me in JH's position, I'd probably consider sending Pie or Hill in the deal. Especially if they were to add $15 Million back in the deal.

EDIT: Burnitz would almost definitely have to be included in the deal as well. But it's okay because we got this Murton guy.

IF the deal between BOS and NYM is as has been reported, Jim should be talking to his buddy, Theo, now and working out a deal. I just know Jim could get something done that would make everyone happy [especially if we get MRam at reduced cost] if he really wanted to do it. (And at this point, why he wouldn't want to do it is beyond me - OVERLOOKING the antics and reported bad attitude towards playing hard or at all, at times)

Even if the CWS are wanting Manny, as has been rumored, I don't see BOS giving him up to a possible AL playoff opponent. Or if they do, the CWS are going to have to SEVERELY overpay and not get much of a reduced cost on Ramirez' salary.

Roast, just to let you know, if you want to do the AIM thing to get updates, I'd be happy to oblige like the others said.

could you or some other gracious poster out here do the same for me too? i might be able to listen to some of the game on and off, but chances are i probably won't know the latest updates on deals and stuff. I have AIM on my phone so i would greatly appreciate all of the help :D

I'm sure it would NEVER happen cause it just wouldn't be realistically feasible, BUT (fantasy-wise)......

if Jim were to package say Walker, Burnitz, Mitre, Wellemeyer + an upper-level prospect for Manny at a nicely reduced cost, could and/or would he then try to give Texas Patterson, Rusch, Pie for Soriano (since Walker went to BOS)?

Just because of the potenial money involved in dealing for both Manny and Soriano - as in money taken on - I know it'd never realistically happen... but if Jim were able to pull off the deals similar to what I described above... would we be overpaying for both (MLB and prospect-players wise)?

I know it'd never happen, but how would a lineup looking like this fair for the last 2 months?

CF Hairston

SS Nomar

1B Lee

LF MRam

3B ARam

2B Soriano

RF Murton - love Matt, but wish Burnitz would still be here

I don't like any deal that inludes Walker and Burnitz. One or the other, but not both. Subtracting two of our better hitters to add one doesn't really help. That and Murton would be a massive defensive downgrade in right. Can you imagine a Manny/Hairston/Murton OF defensively? Yikes.

Of course, being the Manny-optimist I am... maybe Jim is working hard on Soriano because he's called Theo and told him "can we get Manny at a nice reduction if I can package a deal together with Soriano as the center piece?" (or maybe just Walker [and keep Soriano? :) ] seeing as how the Red Sox are looking for a good 2B.)

Maybe that's why we aren't hearing much about the Cubs yet, involved with BoSox/Manny talks, Jim needs to secure AS first. Kinda like the Nomar deal last year. Had to secure Cabrera first and then do a trade in-to-trade out deal before Theo would take the overall deal for Nomar & Matt.

That at all possible or realistic? Not sure Jim would trade for a guy of Soriano's caliber just to package him in another trade - unless Jim wants Manny THAT BADLY.

ah just what i thought. I knew once Hunter went down that they would try to after a power 2B (look at the Hunter injured thread to see for yourself  ) like Soriano because their offense has absolutely no power right now. Soriano going to the Twins makes the most sense in the world IMO.

Getting off the Manny-topic a little...

To me, its amazing that even though there's only been a few trades over the last couple days, there haven't been any major starting pitchers trading places (CH Park going to SD for Nevin is about all so far). Burnett is staying in FLA looks like and other than Schmidt and Ponson (up until he got his hand hit by a batted ball), there hasn't been alot of trade rumors for big-time starting pitchers.

I know that alot more teams are in the playoff race this year, but there's good starting pitchers even on the teams that aren't contending this year.

That's a much more detailed version of something I daydreamed about earlier. Of course I've probably tried everything in my power to make Manny a Cub and so far nothing has worked yet. I'm sorry if I let you guys down.

i remember what i was doing...i was hanging out with a bunch of friends playing NCAA 05 taking my focus off the deadline. I figure the Cubs don't get anything done but when i came home at around 11:30, i go to espn.com and see a big picture of Nomar with the Cubs hat. I wish someone was around me to see the look on my face when i saw that  That was my favorite moment of all of last year's season in sports.

Good point. Other names have been getting tossed around (Moyer, Millwood, etc..), but there really hasn't been much happening. A lot of those deals may end up being after the deadline waiver deals.

Don't despair just yet. We still got 15 hours to go. Keep the faith!

At least for another 14:30 hours anyway.

The Nomar deal wasn't announced to the public until a few hours after the deadline, right? So technically we have a few extra hours.

What about Ramirez and Lofton then? If we are in a race, Hendry is going to do something. It may not be a blockbuster, but he will do something.

It was announced about 2 minutes after the deadline.
