i find it quite amazing that everyone in here started arguing right after the cubs lost the lead....ever think that a lot of you put too much stock in following the cubs? just a question, i love the cubs but i don't let how they play affect how i treat people and how i go about my day....again, it's just a game people.

I agree with your statement, but I also recall a segment of my life where I lived and died by whether we won or lost. A loss could ruin an entire day for me and put me in a crappy mood for at least 24 hours - a slump would make me miserable to be around.

It's all a matter of perspective as well as a person's competitive nature etc.... as to how they react.

The fact is, everyone taking the time to visit these boards are Cub fans - we all want them to win - some take a loss harder than others and some get angrier than others.

What I DO know is that just telling people "it's just a game" generally starts a whole 'nuther argument :-).

How bout we all just see if we can coax a win out of this one!!

Do some of you people not remember anything from the last two years? Every time we lose a game to a poor team, people say we have no heart and "playoff teams don't lose these games."

In 2003 we lost a lot of games like this at this point in the season and everyone said we had no chance at the playoffs and the season was over. We made the playoffs.

The same thing happened last year and we were in position to seal the Wild Card in the final week of the year.

No one in the Wild Card race is that good this year and we're within 3 games.

I disagree. There a couple of good teams playing for the WC. Astros right about now areplaying probably the best baseball in the majors. Things have changed since 2003.

Things changed since last year? These exact comments were made last year. Then we played good baseball and were in position to wrap up the Wild Card until a collapse in the last week.

The Astros were better in 2003 than they are now and they were better last year than they are this year.

Collapse or not we did not make it to the playoffs last year, and they did. Do you honestly see a playoff team when you watch the Cubs of this year? I dont. They make too many mistakes and can't do the little things that count like moving along runners and scoring in runs when a man is on 3rd. Those little things are costing us. Our starting pitching isnt as dominant as it was in 2003 either. If you havent noticed Wood is out and we don't have Clement anymore. Dont be surprised or shocked if we dont make it.

the team is playing like they are tired. As they should be. They have played 15 straight games.

I always wonder how tiring it is to play baseball when you are at home and the other team has been traveling. The team has no excuse for its lackluster efforts as of late.

Err...this 18 game stretch included a road trip to Pittsburgh & St. Louis and then they travelled home ALL without a day off. You work your job 18 straight days with 3 travel days included and see if you are tired at the end of it. Sheesh

So, the one day off Arizona has had makes all the difference? Please. How tiring is it to play baseball. I don't remember ever being winded except when I pitched. Most of them also had the All Star break off. Maybe the Astros just have better beds than we do.

Ok, no matter the profession, if anyone works 18 straight days (not to mention travels 3 times as well) it would get to you. Not sure what your profession is but I don't want to go to work 18 straight days. And I love my job.

Again, why is this a valid excuse for the Cubs and not the Diamondbacks, Astros, or Braves?

In my profession, I work at times 70 days strait with 8 hour plus days and travel about once per week during that time frame. Is it tiring? Yes. But if I represent my client on day 68 and the adverse party kicks my but, my client will not accept I'm tired as an excuse. I work my but off and so do those that I deal with and against. Excuses, such as I'm tired, don't go over to well with me when everyone else faces the same conditions.

The only difference is we can't tell if you're sluggish or not. YOu might be. But these guys are on stage and we can see it.

If i'm sluggish, I get my rear end handed to me.

regardless, my point is they are all on the same stage. All the teams are tired... so why is it an excuse for the Cubs and not say the Astros. Can anyone explain that to me?

Not sure I like the sac bunt by Murton, counting on Macias to pull through.

Edit: Especially with a speedy Cedeno perfectly capable of stealing a base on first, and the pitcher having just walked the previous batter...

Wow, how can you not PH ARam? Wow...

This is a terrific example of why Baker is not a good manager. Macias over Aramis, unless he's saving Aramis for Blanco's spot. So either Aramis is hurt worse than we know, or Baker's a fool.

that was screwed up, Cedeno had 2nd, could have bunted him to 3rd :x

Considering how well we score runners from 3rd with less than 2 outs, I almost prefer to try to score him from 2nd :-P

WHY THE HELL IS MACIAS HITTING? Wow. Just wow. Unbelievable. Hey Dusty, I hear Darren is swinging pretty well lately. Why don't you let him hit next.

Have you considered the possibility that A-Ram's quad is still hurting him and he is unavailable?
