Do some of you people not remember anything from the last two years? Every time we lose a game to a poor team, people say we have no heart and "playoff teams don't lose these games."

In 2003 we lost a lot of games like this at this point in the season and everyone said we had no chance at the playoffs and the season was over. We made the playoffs.

The same thing happened last year and we were in position to seal the Wild Card in the final week of the year.

No one in the Wild Card race is that good this year and we're within 3 games.

My God is that a loser mentality. If we knew how to hit a sacrifice fly we be up about four or five games in the wild card race. We have now scored a total of two runs in 17 innings against a bad pitching staff. Another runner stranded on thid with less than two outs. Let's stop trying to put a good face on this offense. It stinks. If we don't hit home runs we don't score same as last year. No one learns about trying to extend at bats. Look at Blanco's home today; that was the 11th pitch of the AB. A lot of these guys don't battle at the plate some times. Perez, Walker and Hairston go out on the first pitch way too much.

Stop saying it's not that bad. It is.

Good job Lee!! Do that DP for the classless fans!!

Somebody needs to take a deep breath and step away from the keyboard a bit.

Maybe you should relax a bit. I'm getting sick and tired of this pathetic offense.

Maybe I misread, but I don't remember being the one hypercritical of a Lee at-bat.

A player having possibly the best season (along with Sosa's 2001) anyone's seen in a lifetime. But apparently he's a moron because he thinks fans were classless for relentlessly booing a player no longer on the team he pitched well for. And he occasionally hits into a DP.

Curse all players that don't get on base at least half the time! ...

Those that have only been following the Cubs for a few years, I can understand high expectations. But those that have followed the Cubs for 20 or more years should be able to understand that the good times happen so remotely, they should be more enjoyed than expected.

the team is playing like they are tired. As they should be. They have played 15 straight games.

I always wonder how tiring it is to play baseball when you are at home and the other team has been traveling. The team has no excuse for its lackluster efforts as of late.

Err...this 18 game stretch included a road trip to Pittsburgh & St. Louis and then they travelled home ALL without a day off. You work your job 18 straight days with 3 travel days included and see if you are tired at the end of it. Sheesh

So, the one day off Arizona has had makes all the difference? Please. How tiring is it to play baseball. I don't remember ever being winded except when I pitched. Most of them also had the All Star break off. Maybe the Astros just have better beds than we do.

Ok, no matter the profession, if anyone works 18 straight days (not to mention travels 3 times as well) it would get to you. Not sure what your profession is but I don't want to go to work 18 straight days. And I love my job.

Again, why is this a valid excuse for the Cubs and not the Diamondbacks, Astros, or Braves?

In my profession, I work at times 70 days strait with 8 hour plus days and travel about once per week during that time frame. Is it tiring? Yes. But if I represent my client on day 68 and the adverse party kicks my but, my client will not accept I'm tired as an excuse. I work my but off and so do those that I deal with and against. Excuses, such as I'm tired, don't go over to well with me when everyone else faces the same conditions.

I disagree. There a couple of good teams playing for the WC. Astros right about now areplaying probably the best baseball in the majors. Things have changed since 2003.

Except coming out of the ASB, they played a really good team and got swept. Since then, they've beaten up on Pittsburgh (awful), Washington (reeling) and Philly (average). So they've had a decent stretch of games against average teams. That doesn't project how they'll fair the last two months. ALL the teams battling for the WC are average.

I have played hockey at very competitive levels, a much tougher sport to play than baseball.

And no, I wasn't sitting inside in the AC. I was shoveling hot asphalt outside, and cutting down trees 8 hours a day while people like you made ignorant remarks on the internet to try to feel good about their sad selves.

Wow, who is feeling worse at this point. Maybe I will come where you are and boo you for creating traffic jams. :D

usually people just flick us off :)

but booing would be a nice change

i find it quite amazing that everyone in here started arguing right after the cubs lost the lead....ever think that a lot of you put too much stock in following the cubs? just a question, i love the cubs but i don't let how they play affect how i treat people and how i go about my day....again, it's just a game people.

Looking at things logically instead of making a knee-jerk reaction is a loser's mentality?

THE EXACT SAME THINGS WERE SAID THE LAST TWO YEARS!

I'm convinced that some people just simply don't understand that this is a 162 game season. Our offense is hot and cold, we'll bust out of it and go on a tear for a week or so like we have all year.

I wish everyone would just relax and read your post, it makes a lot of sense. But, I guess it's always like this when the Cubs lose.

I wish my job was to take BP a few hours before gametime, stand motionless in a field for half of 3 hours, sit on a bench for most of the other half, and once in a while swing a bat at a moving ball. That is sooo tough.....

You really can separate the athletes from the non-athletes. I'm guessing you never played competitive sports at a high level. I also bet you were inside air-conditioning last week in the 100+ degree temps last week instead of losing 5-10 pounds playing baseball.

The only difference is we can't tell if you're sluggish or not. YOu might be. But these guys are on stage and we can see it.

If that's logic, then the answer is yes.
