Appearently he slid cleats up into Rangers catcher Rod Barajas tonight and Barajas had to leave the game as a result.

Good thing your stats make up for your behavior! Oh wait...

I watched the highlight, Sosa immediately jumped up and took the guy by the shoulders apologizing. The catcher was nodding like he understood and it's ok.

When did Barajas start pitching?

 He can't be much worse than most of the pitchers that the Rangers throw out there.

Ah. Just heat of the moment stuff. Sosa isn't notorious for dirty play, so I'll give him a pass. It's good to see him hitting a little. I'm pretty sure he was a juicer, but I don't want to see him go out in disgrace.

Good to hear, Uber.

that was a pretty dirty play by sosa. real dirty, actually.

if jim edmonds had done it, the board would be up in arms.

Yeah it was pretty dirty. It's hard to believe somebody would accidentally slide with his cleats at chest level. I will say that I'm glad he immediatly apologized although even that was somewhat condescending, he was patting Barajas on the face like it was his grandson or something.

For the record, I am still angry at Edmonds for this. I don't blame Sammy as much as I blame the red queen.

I saw the highlight. Barajas was understandably mad immediately after the play. Sosa was immediately apologetic. I think Sammy was trying to slide in hard, but simply made a bad slide. How many players do we see that never apologize for such behavior? At best, Sammy was making a bad slide. At worst, he committed a dirty play, but apologized for it.

People sure love to revel in Sammy's failings.

I saw the highlight as well, and I agree with your statement. It was just one of those freak plays, that's all.

<---------------------------never saw it

Well, if you choose to, you can just simply flick your tube to ESPN and try to catch it on there.

On that play, Sosa came in sliding spikes first and collided with Texas catcher Rod Barajas, causing a nasty bruise on the catcher's left arm. Both benches emptied but Sosa held on to Barajas while apologizing. He then called Barajas in the clubhouse after the game and apologized again. Sosa did not speak with reporters after the game.

Nah, it's cool. I did find a picture from after it happened:

Further proof that it is a dangerous thing to start questioning another person's class, or lack thereof.

Totally. And I don't get it cuz he was such a deserved fan favorite. He acted like such a nice guy for years.

That's the new Cub fan: love forever until they don't.

Also in that game, Sammy passed Frank Robinson for 5th all time in homers. Congrats Sammy. I look forward to seeing you reach #600.

There are currently four player in front of him. Aaron, Ruth, Bonds and Mays. Wow. Those are some serious names.

Sammy is human, and humans make mistakes. At least Sammy was apologetic about his actions. If we're going to condemn people for being human and making mistakes let me know so I can change the line about Barajas pitching, I don't want CT to get ripped on

I think it's interesting how this is greeted with "Mistakes happen" but people wanted Erstad to get drilled in the face and suspended for life. I think they were similar incidents.

Just an observation.

I think that a basis for saying that "mistakes happen" is whether or not a person is apologetic. On a similar note, should we say shame on anyone that ever tackles a catcher on a play at the plate?
