I think it's interesting how this is greeted with "Mistakes happen" but people wanted Erstad to get drilled in the face and suspended for life. I think they were similar incidents.

Just an observation.

My objection with the Erstad scenerio primarily came from my opinion that Estrada was in front of the plate (toward the diamond) and, thus, not in a position where he would expect or prepare for contact. Barajas was blocking the plate, so even though Sammy's cleats came in high, Barajas had an opportunity to protect himself and prepare for a collision.

the difference is that erstad didn't make a big show of apologizing after trying to knock the guy out -- he's not a hypocrite.

I'm glad we are now aware of the "danger" of questioning sammy sosa's "class".

...what?

I think that both were a situation where the guys coming to home were a little out of control. They made quick decisions on how to get to the plate and both were questionable decisions. I don't think harm was intended in either case.

I'm going to shut up now because I don't want to derail the thread.

lol, Sammy basically dropkicked him. He looked like someone who has never had to slide into home plate before. He seriously didn't know what to do, so he karate kicked him. Barajas should have stomped on his head.

that was easily the worse slide i have ever seen in my life. Any higher and he would have kicked him in the face.

I think it was one of those things where your body acts ahead of your brain. I think everyone has done something like that before, just not in front of a million people.

Sammy (unlike ARod and Fick) apologized immediately and afterwards, so I think this is probably a non-issue.

Sammy is now in sole possession of 5th place on the all time home run list. Read that again and let it sink in.

But rather than discussing that, let's bash him cause he slid into home wrong.

My take on it is that Sosa intentionally slid spike high, not to injure anyone but try and knock the ball loose, as soon as he did it he realized what had happened and apologized. I don't think it was "dirty", but I do think it was intentional. On the other hand, I wouldn't blame Texas if they plunked Sosa the next time he came to bat, or at least pushed him off of the plate (no head hunting though), that is just part of the game.

No kidding.

It is pathetic that threads like this are started. Truely pathetic. Sammy did everything he could to appologize. He even called the man in the club house. Jesus Christ. Sosa could find a cure for cancer and people would cry that he ignored those with Aids.

I suppose it's either these threads or threads detailing every homerun that Sammy hits and where it places him all time. I'd rather have neither.

I realize what you mean. But good lord. I dont think people really realize the class of people he is in now. The list is now:

Hank Aaron

Babe Ruth

Barry Bonds

Willie Mays

Sammy Sosa

That is some GOOD company.

I know this is a touchie subject with you and some others and I don't want this to turn into an agrument but, not everyone thinks Sammy's homerun totals are legitimate. A lot of people think the marquee sluggers of this era should have an "*" next to their records. I'm not so sure they'd be excited to hear about Sosa's march up the list.

You can't get mad at people who post negitive things about Sammy because they should "let it go" (now that he's not on the team anymore) and then turn around and laud his accomplishments in the same forum. You have to take the good with the bad, IMO. I'd rather see neither, personally. No point on ganging up when he's down but there also isn't much point in overstressing the positives in, what has been for Sammy, an awful season.

Like I said, I'm not trying to start an argument, but I'm just pointing out other people's perspectives.

Yep, I've already gotten 4 calls today from morans I know that heard about this on Jim Rome or some other equally silly platform. I told them all to watch Sportscenter and hung up.

That's the first time I've heard Bonds and Good Company in the same sentence.

Some GREAT company. I just don't get why people feel the need to point out Sammy's mistakes. Why isn't there a new thread started everytime Manny does something dirty, or when Clemens hits somebody? Sammy Sosa will go down as one of the greatest players to ever play the game; appreciate the fact that you got to see him play in Chicago for so many years. That or forget all the great things he did and point out every mistake he makes. I think the latter is pretty childish though.

I agree with this, when I first saw it, it was fairly obvious he kept his foot up on purpose. I'm not saying he was intending to spike barajas but he was trying to kick the ball out. I thought barajas handled it very well but when I saw the clip i remember thinking "barajas is gonna be more pissed when he sees this replay"

Adebisi was great on OZ. Not so much at NSBB. He dropped an "S" bomb and was generally acting like a jerk/troll.
