Bruce, what's with the Neifi love?

We under appreciate Neifi. He's a career sub who has filled in admirably. Let's not have short memories, Neifi and DLee were carrying the offense when Aramis and Corey were automatic outs early in the season.

Without going into the same debate again, I'll have to strongly disagree. Neifi did well in April, but he's regressed to his career numbers, which I don't want on the roster at all.

Nonsense.

Since May 1: .241/.261/.337/.598

Who's been worse?

Cory Patterson for one.

Nope, actually 50 points better in OPS, but he's been deemed not good enough to be on a major league roster at that level of production. Yet Neifi has praise heaped upon him for being worse since his hot start. I should have clarified though, I was referring to infielders when I asked who was worse, since you claimed he was the best reserve.

ha. I was just doing the math for this one as well. Corey, despite his terrible June, actually has been better.

This one will probably be cancelled, right? I can't see them playing this late.

Waited this long, might as well play it.

yeah, I suppose so.

This is a prime example of why I'm glad the Cubs look at more than just selective stats. I guess you just ignore defense, but hey that's ok. Your're entitled to your opinion, I just disagree. CPat is where he belongs BTW.

Geez, you Neifi haters never give up. Best backup infielder in baseball this year, without him, Oh heck what's the use-you guys all know better and hate him.

Please don't use that term.

:?:

There are a few threads that discuss this. Lumping someone in a collective group based on the fact that they do not question a player or coach (Neifi haters, Dusty busters) is something that has been frowned on. There are several threads about it.

Huge roars coming from Wrigley, still seems like it's drizzling though so I'm not sure what they're for.

Maybe Demp is out there hitting golf balls..

I wouldn't be surprised if it was some players goofing around. There's no way the tarp is off yet.

I dont get your point. There was little alternative. Instead of picking out Neifi's May stats I think its much more appropriate to point out others, on the team, that are being paid to hit for average and drive in runs. Aramis had a horrible start to the season and so did Barrett. Plus, Todd Walker's bat was also out of the lineup which compounded the problem. The bottom line is, Neifi Perez isn't paid to get the big hits. There is no reason to be angry with him. However, one could take issue with Dusty keeping him at the top of the lineup once he started to struggle.

In former Cub news, Joe Borowski kept his D-Rays ERA at 0.00 with a 1-2-3 8th against the Boston Red Sox.

Glad to see him getting it done, I am.

Who cares? No matter how much we argue, Neifi will be playing until Nomar gets back. Both sides have side their piece numerous times and we don't need another dragged out game thread because of it. Some people like Neifi, some don't. The board doesn't need another Neifi drama playing out in the game thread.

Show me the replay of the grounder he didn't get to in the late innings against St. Louis this weekend and then make that argument.

Neifi is no better than the average shortstop anymore defensively.

Selective stats? I challenge you to find even one offensive category that Neifi has even been decent in over the past two months. Any category.

And defense is good, but when you hit under .200 for two months and don't draw any walks, even the best defender becomes a detriment.

neifi perez has been nothing special on defense this year at all

Sorry, but he's made several great plays for the Cubs this year. The most recent one being the screaming liner from Pujols.

Is it piece or peace? I honestly don't know, but for some reason always thought it was peace. I guess that makes less sense though.

I am obviously very bored.

Ronny Cedeno. And people aren't angry with Neifi Perez. They're angry with Dusty for playing him over a kid who was hitting .370 in AAA and sticking him in the 2 hole.

Selective stats? That covers the entire offensive scope of the game. Sure Neifi is above average as a defender, but he's not significantly better than others that makes up for his inability to hit, and certainly not enough to be considered the best infield reserve in baseball. Can you find someone who is worse, offensively, defensively, or otherwise?
