In other news, Jason Dubois hit a homer for the Indians today.

and in further news, Farnsworth struck out 2 of 3 hitters in the 9th to earn his 4th save in a 2-1 game

Yeah but that's only because he's pitching in obscurity. He couldn't cut it in the big city. Plus, you can always count on him to do something stupid to get suspended.

Just got on. Saw the last half of the game. I had a very bad feeling going into the ninth. It seemed like we were destined to lose and on the Pujols shot, Neifury reaches and pulls down the dp ball showing us why he is out there everyday, the GG caliber defense. Great win, lets do it again tommorow.

Btw... this team still sucks.

Awww yeah! I only got to see as far as the 7th inning, but I followed it closely on my cellphone while I was working. When I saw the game was over, and the Cubs winning it, I just went berserk (Happy mind you).

I have been watching BBTN and Sportscenter and they keep talking about how bad a move it was to bring in Novoa to walk Pujols instead of having the previous pitcher do it. I remember hearing this statement during the game and it added to my loathing of Dusty.

It didn't start off as an IBB, though. And if the umpire was paying attention, it could have been a 2-2 count instead of 3-1. Once it got to 3-1, the IBB made sense.

I don't understand this criticism. Novoa wasn't trying to walk Pujols, he was just being careful(he was also robbed of a strike call in the AB) with him. If you leave Ohman in, who has been bad against RH this year, a mistake he makes in pitching around Pujols is more likely to hurt you than a mistake by the right handed Novoa who has better stuff.

A couple of things, I missed the thread because I wasn't here but I have a few questions

Buck talking sarcastically about JW's necklace. His deceased mother gave him that...

Anybody remember what he said, that's pretty low.

Pujols was scratched due to a strained left shoulder.

I wonder if this happened swinging and missing at Big Z's heaters. :D

And Wow Jerome Williams, must have put on a gutsy performance

The heat made it difficult for Jerome Williams (3-3) to breathe. The Cubs pitcher has asthma, and he was struggling.

"I can't blame anything on that," Williams said. "You've got to fight through it. That's why you're a ballplayer."

Baker had to remind Williams of that in the fifth when he went out to the mound for a chat.

"[i told him] how much we needed this game, how much he needed it, how much he wanted to stay here and contribute," Baker said of his message. "That's the nice way to put it."

"He came out and told me, 'You want to be here, you want to get this thing done, you want to win this game, you go out there and give it your all and pitch like you want to,'" Williams said. "I did the things I have to do to get a win and fight through it."

Williams gave up four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits and three walks over six innings. He has pitched at least six innings in each of his five starts with the Cubs. He had a tough time walking up to the clubhouse from the dugout after the game because he was so drained from the heat.

"I pitched in Colorado and it was bad," Williams said. "The first two innings, I almost passed out. I couldn't breathe. That's when you can't panic. I don't panic when I can't breathe that well because growing up in Hawaii, I used to surf a lot, and being trapped under water, you learn not to panic. I just try to be calm and throw."

Yeah, I heard that he had asthma when they were interviewing him on the postgame show. Must've been real tough for him.

I don't know how to explain how Williams managed to pitch that long, let alone, go through 4 innings in that heat and humidity. All I gotta say is that guy is deftinaly one tough son-of-a-gun. Shoot, the poor fella nearly passed out while he was struggling trying to get back in the clubhouse in the 6th if I recall correctly.

Say what you want about him, but I am darned proud to see that he is in Cubbie blue, and our 5th starter in the rotation. The guy pitched his heart out, no matter how bad the situation was.

Hm, I thought his start looked kinda familiar, especially now that I know he has asthma. Anyone else remember those days when Matt Clement would trot out to the mound, not have his best stuff, have some control issues, but still pitch well enough to keep the opposition held down, then come out before looking like he was going to drop dead on the field?

Same thing with Jerome, imo. :D

and in further further news, the Cubs don't win this game if not for Aramis Ramirez, Derrick Lee, and a really gutsy performance by Jerome Williams. Michael Barrett's RBI single was handy too.

I don't like all of Hendry's moves either, and I'm not sure if this is a jab at him, but if it is, do we really need to do this everytime an ex-Cub has a good performance?

Wow yeah. That must have been hell. *mad respect*

OK, I've officially taken a liking to this kid.

Welp...now the DP is set up! :D

Told ya. Dempster knew what he was doing the whole time.

McCarver: Nothing funny about this [re: the Cardinals losing] - way to show your allegience.

I wasn't in front of the TV when the ball was hit so I just heard his call of the play. Now here's the thing: when it happened I was thinking cubs announcers. So McCarver said "line drive..." and since I was thinking cubs announcers and he said it EXACTLY like chip would have said it if it had been a game winning hit for the opponents, I was pretty upset. then he finished the call and I was ecstatic.

Moral of the story: he's a blatant cards fan and sucks
