Sources are telling me that it is very likely that Nomar Garciaparra will be making a rehab assignment with the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday through Thursday of next week.

It is my understanding that Nomar went 1-4 today and will make another start in Mesa on Sunday. If everything goes according to plan on Sunday, Nomar will join Peoria for three games beginning Tuesday, July 26.

An official decision will be made Sunday night, but it is as high as "95%" probable that Nomar will be in Peoria next week if everything goes according to plan.

Stupid summer school keeping me from going to the game. Although, if I was able to finish my final paper before that, I could possibly be able to go...

Boy will it be nice to get Nomar back.

How is his fielding? I realize you can't tell this from a box score unless there is something glaring like an error, but I'd really like to know if anyone sees him in person. :D Thanks.

Well, the good news is that we'll definitely have one -- and quite possibly more -- of our members there who can give us a report on Nomar.

So is it right for me to read that as its possible, if everything goes well, that he'll be back at Wrigley for the weekend of the 30th?

You know what's really freaking strange about that. I took my son to Busch for his first Cubs game on the day Nomar went down. I'm taking him to Wrigley on the 30th for his first game in Chicago...it would be pretty odd for his first two games be the one Nomar went down in, and then the one he came back in...not sure if that's a good omen, a bad omen, or just a strange coincidence.

The media status pays off immedeatley.

And, DJAXX, does it make you feel important to say "sources".

It makes you sound like an agent. I wish I had sources.

Nomar's single was in IF single to the shortstop in the 1st inning. He played half the game and finished 1-2. He struck out in his only other AB.

It's important to note that it was 99 degrees in Arizona today with no wind.

So you're saying it was unseasonably cold?

That's why they play 'em in the morning. But that was just at gametime. I don't think they're going to push him too much in game situations in that heat.

Yikes! Pleeeze keep this hush-hush, at least until I manage to pick up some tickets. And perfect timing, too, 'cause I'm on vacation all this week. Sweet.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to say "big thanks" to DJAXXFAN for the scoop! :D

crap I was going to try to buy tickets before it was out. Hopefully the whole series doesn't sell out, before I'm able to pick up a couple of tickets.

ALSO thumbs up to this DJAXXFAN guy I guess he's not a troll

The Word is out.

ha ha, that's great! Maybe this "scoop" will help NSBB in the future when it comes to media relations.

Just wanted to note that I saw Nomar after tonights (7/25) game. He came out and looked like he was walking well. He took his equipment bags and packed him in his car, presumably to goto Peoria. He even took about 5 minutes to come and sign autographs for the fans waiting for players on the other side of the wall. Class act.

Edit: To add on, I feel bad for Novoa, everyone but me thought he was Lee when he came out. Also, only about four people, myself included, actually recognized Rich Hill. Oh well.

Thanks for the report! Nomar is the man! I hope the folks in Peoria have a great time this week. In addition, hopefully we'll have him in a Jaxx uniform this weekend! Thanks again for the update!

I obviously realize the difference between the levels of ball...but I'm wondering, after this little stint at Peoria...assuming it goes alright...why not come straight back to Chicago? and if he doesn't...how long do people expect him to stay down? another week? two?

I'm of the mindset that if he's able to play professional baseball...and has had a week or two taking swings in the minors, then he should be back with the Big Club...thoughts?

I believe that this situation has more to do with a timetable than anything else. According to the Peoria schedule, the Chiefs are home tonight through Thursday, then away. Typcially the organization has placed players in an organization that is playing home games if at all possible. Playing for the Chiefs gave Nomar an opportunity to go to Chicago and join the Chiefs for their home series. After Thursday, among the teams from A-AAA, the Diamond Jaxx are the only team in the organization that will be playing at home.
