We must still be in the race for the division title. In the STL Post-Dispatch it's reported that LaRussa and Duncan have already tweaked the rotation so that Morris and Carpenter will have to face the Cubs when they meet in late July. They must still feel as if we're alive if they're changing the rotation for a late July series vs. a series right after the All-Star break. I appreciate the respect.

I'd have to say that's a little odd considering we haven't tinkered with our rotation order all year. I guess he's paying respect to the rivalry and the fact that we have 14 games remaining with the Cubs.

Especially considering they could both pitch against Houston in the series before. Oh well...I think the Cubs are the better team anyway.

Being a good team is one thing, playing like one is another.

probably just wants to drive the final nail in the coffin

I agree. If nothing else, LaRussa is relentless, and will put them away at the next opportunity if he can.

Good. I don't fear either of them. They're both an injury away from blowing the season. Remember last year.

When they won 105 games and went to the World Series? Last year sucked.

A whole lot of luck went into that. Between career years and very few injuries, the Cards looked absolutely blessed. Even then Carp did go down towards the end, as many predicted he would. He is mowing them down now, and he may continue to, but he's going to have to do it for a couple full seasons before people can really take him seriously.

(Although the same can be said for Prior)

If the Cards win 105 this year, I'll be alot more impressed.

That would be my guess.

People read far too much into things sometimes.

I didn't read too much into this. I was just stating that LaRussa and Duncan were showing us a level of respect not usually seen toward a team 12 1/2 games out and in third place. By the time we play the Cards in late July we could be 12, 15 or 18 games out. Or we could be 6 or 7 games out. Regardless, you don't see teams change the rotation for a team they won't see for three weeks and who are currently in third place. As I said, I thank them for the respect.

As I recall Morris and Carpenter weren't a huge part of that by the end of the season because of ineffectiveness and injury respectively.

Carpenter went down with nerve irritation in his elbow late in the season and Morris battled all year. But the each had 15 wins when it was all said and done, so 30 wins between them. Nothing to scoff at.

Morris had 15 wins because of great run support. His ERA was a gaudy 4.72. Most of the time, that does not get you 15 wins.

Except for the fact that great run support wasn't the reason he got 15 wins. Morris only had 3 "cheap" wins (Game Score under 50), he also had 3 ND with a Game Score well over 50. Morris was the epitome of Jekyll & Hyde last year, when he was good he was very good and when he was bad he was very bad. Morris' 5.88 RS had about as much to do wth his 15 wins as Zambrano's 6.05 had to do with his 16 despite the vast difference in ERA

the way i see it, don't even show up for the world series if you're gonna play horribly. Last year's world series between Boston and St Louis was so disappointing and boring.

The Cards shoulda stayed at home. If you're thinking they'll win this year, don't hold your breath.

Oh, that's right, wait until the Cubs concoct their absolute full proof WS team. Unfortunately I don't see that happening any time soon.
