Personally, I think that if he refuses to play them, he'll be gone by the end of the month.

Agreed.

Well here's to hoping he doesn't play them for the rest of the month.

Not sure where this question belongs but I was wondering if anyone knows if Left/Right splits are kept for minor league players. Just trying to find if they exist for Greenberg and Murton.

Why do you think that? Dusty never plays the kids, why would he allow his hand to be forced now? I don't even know if he cares at this point, if he gets fired so be it, he doesn't like Chicago and he has his money. Why back down now after he has proven he won't be told what to do in San Fran or Chicago?

I don't know about Greenburg. If Hairston continues to get on base they'll have to keep him in the lineup.

Murton will get at least one start so that he can go 0-4 and Baker can justify not playing him again.

It really depends on Lee's health. If he misses more games-which might not be a bad idea in the long run- there's an opening in the lineup.

At this point it's up to Baker to not play Macias over Murton or even Greenburg (and especially not Hairston).

That a little unfair. The pitching staff is littered with youth and/or inexperience, and he has had no problem going with them.

I have never been able to understand why Dusty can throw the pitching prospects in the fire, but ween the hitting prospects so slowly they lose rhythm.

He'd allow his hand to be forced if he wants to keep his job. Baker has insisted on doing it his way, which has led to the lowest OBP out of the top 2 spots in the lineup in the majors. And now the team is sinking fast, when 8 days ago they almost took the wild card lead.

I think he's been forced to play the younger pitchers because he had no choice. It wasn't like Hendry signed veteran pitchers who could step into the roles Wood, Prior, etc. have. Even in relief, Hendry didn't go out and sign veterans that had the opportunity to supplant our younger players.

However, Hendry had signed Hollandsworth, et. al giving Dusty the opportunity to play the veterans who "know how to get it done." And we see what that led us.

What a difference a week makes huh? Dusty played young pitchers out of necessity. He had no choice. There were no other alternatives. But if people remember back at the beginning of the year, everytime Dubois started, he'd get two to three at bats, and then he'd be pulled. It didn't matter how many hits he had, or anything like that. He's also hellbent on riding the Neifi train straight to hell. When the team brings up a guy like Cedeno that has been that hot, there is no reason to stick with Perez. Now Cedeno has likely cooled off after sitting on the bench.

Someone said it best earlier. He'll play Murton tonight, and he'll go 0-4 or 1-5, and Dusty will have his reason to never start him again.

There's a decent chance Dusty might give some playing time to the new kids. He can probably hear the fat lady warming up already for his job.

Murton needs to start. If he's up, you need to start him. Greenberg, as much as I love him, is never going to be more than a 4th OF, so I'm fine with a spot start, or just PH duty. Calling Murton up and sitting him is just pointless though.

He's already doing it to Cedeno. I wouldn't be shocked to see Murton start a game or two, then go straight to Dubois spot on the bench. I hope I'm wrong, but Dusty is as stubborn as they come. Even with his job on the line, he'll be stubborn.

Have you ever tried to convince a stubborn person they're wrong? It's like trying to convince Michael Jackson that children are off limits. Or trying to convince Oprah, to shut her mouth, put the twinkie down, and get to the store on time.

That's just my opinion though.

Who knows, maybe Dusty learned something from Bobby Cox. Cox played his whole AA team and kicked our butts.

In the starting rotation, there is youth, but youth is extrodinary talent. Prior and Z are very young but what team wouldn't they be in the starting 5? Williams is new, but has more experience than mitre, who got axed the mintue he had a guy with more experience. I think he views it as when he came up. You got a limited amount of shots, and if you failed you didn't make it. Unfortunatly we have a man who's going on thought processes from when he played 20 years ago compared to how the game is really played now. Yes he can change to save his job, but like I said, why would he care eitehr way, he has his money and he obviously doesn't want to be in Chicago. Has he ever seemed to like it here? I don't think so. I know that a judgement call, but he's too think skinned for this type of city. Unless he changes his tune which he never has and I wholeheartedly think he won't, he'll be done after the year if not sooner.

He liked it in Chicago in 2003. That's when everything was going his way. The minute the wheels started to fall off the cart, he quickly became uphappy. And I think, to your point, that it has to do with being thin-skinned. Was this a problem in San Fran in 1995-96 when the Giants had losing records? I'm not sure, but maybe someone with better knowledge than I could answer that question.

I don't have a source, but I remember reading on this board when Dusty was hired from a San Fransico fan that Chicago will be sick of "Dusty traits" within 3 years. He also said that Dusty is not suited for a town like Chicago beause he had trouble with the media from San Fran, let alone what chicago can bring to the table. I thought Dusty was a guy, but I may have been in the minority. All I knew at the time is he had just gone to the World Series and was a winner (record wise) over 7-10 years worth of managing. also, he seemed respected by the players and was a good ballplayer. Who is the next manager in Chicago?
