Why do the Cubs talk so much about the White Sox? Are we supposed to have an inferiority complex or something? Sorry, but I'm 15 and I kind of just started watching Cubs baseball. So new faqn here...please don't diss me please.

Welcome to the forum? I grew up in Central Illinois watching the Cubs every day (yes, WGN used to show like 150 games a year). The Sox were just another team to me like the Phillies, Rangers, Giants, etc. The team I hated and still hate are the Cardinals. I never understood the Cubs/Sox rivalry among the Chicago fans. They only started playing each other (in games that count) less than ten years ago, but other than that, they played in different leagues and neither team had much to brag about. I would love for Chicago to host a World Series parade, preferably for the Cubs, but I would be happy if the Sox won, too.

Hopefully that's just a typo, but I encourage you to use the edit feature on your team spelling. Welcome to the forum!

I can see how there could be (and is) a rivalry, but what I don't get is the bashing in the media of one another. It's quite absurd in my opinion. When we play the Cardinals, we settle things on the field (maybe in the wrong way, but you know). You don't see Carpenter or Morris making comments like Buehrle did.

I saw or read something now about Buehrle claiming that the stuff he said on the Score was something like a joke that didn't come out right or something. I'm not trying to make excuses for Beuhrle, because it was stupid, but I don't think it was as malicious as some people want to believe it was. I think he was really trying to get under the skin of Cubs fans more than anything, and just said something dumb.

I recall a few years ago a Cardinals pitcher, I think, making some comment about Prior needing to be hit by a line drive and then Prior saying he hoped the Astros won and made it to the playoffs and the Cardinals didn't right before a Cubs/Astros series. I wish I could remember the details. It was quite ridiculous at the time.

Anyway, the media, I think, blows all that stuff out of proportion because they know how the fans feed on that stuff.

Back to the original question in this thread, there are always people who focus more on what they hate than what they like, especially, in this case, when the Sox are having a good year and the Cubs really aren't. I think it is especially more frustrating if you view the White Sox as untalented and just "lucky".

Please continue with the juvenile twists on the Sox' name - any slam on those bums is welcome and appreciated.

I didn't realize the Cubs talked a lot about the White Sox. White Sox fans seem to be more interested in the Cubs losing than their team winning. I personally don't care what they do. Some of their fans just annoy me.

the white sox and the local media are very much enjoying the reversal of fortunes this year, that is certain.

I don't really dislike the white sox, I hate when the Cubs lose to them but I don't think about the sox otherwise.

the white sox have the inferiority complex, and they've got good reasons for it. (media coverage, attendance, treatment from the city etc)

the cardinals...yeah, I hate them all the time.

As much as the fans of these 2 teams seem to hate each other during the regular season I think its different when it comes to postseason. I know for a fact that in sept. of 2003 cubs and white sox fans for the most part were rooting for each other and hell a lot of people would go to a cubs game than get on the train or whatevr and head to the sox park to see a sox game. Than even though the sox didnt make the playoffs most sox fans watched the cubs in the playoffs and whether they want to admit it or not were rooting for them.

disagreed.

i watched game 6 in a bar on campus, and there were a LOT of sox fans cheering and jumping up and down and hugging each other.

i only know of one sox fan who rooted for the cubs in the '03 playoffs.

That's funny, because I only know of one Sox fan.

Slight exaggeration. I actually know four Sox fans. And one likes the Sox and the Cubs so he doesn't really count.

Well a course, but think about it... they were watching the cubs.. I dont think people watch teams to lose just when they were getting their asses kicked they are going to pretend they did.

Also judging fans at a bar isnt a great idea. I bet most of them were so drunk they just saw one person cheer and all decided to cheer with him.

Agree with ltb here. My father, for example, is my best friend, but he is also a die hard Sox fan. (how nice of me to stab him in the back, some friend I am). Anyway, I know my father loves me and all, but he HATES the Cubs and was actively rooting for the Marlins even thought the series loss pretty much ruined my month. He didn't care, he was happy as hell. If my own father felt that way about it even though his only son was suffering (as a fan), I don't imagine there are too many Sox fans that are pulling/or pulled for the Cubs.

Contrarily, I do admit to be a closet Sox fan. When they are good (and its rare) my dad is in so much happier and more pleasant to be around. That is enough to make me pull for them.

Back in 03, did anyone else hear about bars on the southside that offered drink specials when the Cubs lost? If it is in fact true, I'm going to enjoy every minute of the Sox going down to defeat this fall. All their early wins will just make the eventual loss that much more painful.

I live in a suburb just south of Chicago... Crete, IL to be exact. And There's maybe 20 true Cubs fans here. And I'll admit, when I catch the Sox score, I mention it the next day (especially after the Cubs win) to my friends who are Sox fans and they do the same to me when the Cubs lose. So I've never really experienced the true rivalry between the teams except for friendly little jabs at each other. But I do know that no Sox fan cheered for the Cubs in 2003 down here. Just thought I'd share some of that.

Sox fans were absolutely cheering against the Cubs in the '03 playoffs. The majority of my friends are Sox fans, and not a one was rooting for them.

The drink specials are true, they'd also change their marquees on their signs to put up anti-cubs/pro-marlins signs.

I for one cannot wait for their collapse.

Welcome. My experience is that it is the other way around. You'll find very few topics on here regarding the Sox, or usernames, or avatars that are anti-sox. On a popular White Sox board, there are many, icons, usernames, sigs, even forums dedicated to anti-Cubs material.

Remember the Sox fan that dressed up in Marlins clothing and went to a game heckling all the Cub fans, and then got kicked out. I think he actually sued afterward....

It's already begun. Ozzie/the team is a fraud.

This smacks of bitterness and jealousy. Yes, they had a bad serious against Oakland (the A's have had their number and are playing excellent ball right now), but they are hardly, imo, about to begin some slide. The team is not a fraud and are headed for the post-season.

GASP! How could you say such bitterness free logical things!
