Heck of a win last night. Bowen almost had the half-inning of his life, but was thwarted by the ivy.

The Padres starter has made one start in the majors this year, which he apparently earned by putting up a 7.92 ERA in 14 starts in AAA. He made a bunch of largely mediocre starts for the Athletics before then, but looks like we never ran into him. We are second in baseball in wRC against LHP, though this guy doesn't have splits. The Padres are very bad against LHPs (27th in baseball), so in theory this should be good for us. Win again, preferably comfortably enough that Assad can just wrap up whatever Boyd can't do.

This is probably the last day they can use Assad in bulk innings and still have him go Sunday. So maybe we do see him today. I am assuming they want Assad pitching Sunday.

I guess they pushed his start back?  Based on days was scheduled for yesterday's game or today I think?

Counsell just trolling us with Bregman at this point

I’ll give the man some credit.  Cubs don’t win that game yesterday without his single off of Miller.  Eye test says his ABs look better the last few games.

Telling you all, i bet Counsell thinks PCA  getting walks more now because pitchers prefer to pitch to Bregman,  and likes that just for the sake of it gets PCA on base more.

But if we moved him down in the order where he belongs based on performance we might risk bruising an athlete's fragile ego.  Teams can't overcome such adversities.

He's hitting .195 with 81 wRC+ in June btw.  With his well-below average running speed (when he chooses to run)

The only thing he did well in June is that he walked more than he struck out. His SLG was like .264

Taillon with a possible rehab start on Sunday. Can't say I'm excited

I am.  Remember last year?  Jamo was great, after he came back from IL, in Aug, Sep and Oct.  He was probably the best SP in the playoffs.  After his return, I think he gave up only a few HR's in 40+ innings.  So, I'm a little excited, although I don't think he'll be as good as the 2nd half of the last season.

Wouldn't surprise me if they change the challenge rules to 2 for hitters and 2 for pitchers, just having 2 all together isn't working.

Most hitters dont want to risk wasting them and leaving their pitchers with none
