All-Star balloting's exciting races end tonight at midnight

With All-Star balloting ending tonight, there remain hotly contested races in both the American and National League for starting positions for the 76th All-Star Game, to be played Tuesday, July 12 at Comerica Park in Detroit. Fans can vote exclusively at MLB.com or ameriquest.com until midnight tonight to determine the starting lineups.

Both the starting lineups, selected by fans, and reserves for the American and National League All-Star teams will be announced exclusively this Sunday night, July 3, at 7:00 p.m. ET on the Major League Baseball All-Star Game Selection Show Presented by Chevrolet on ESPN.

In the National League, first base and shortstop are coming down to the wire with the leaders flip-flopping positions since the last results were announced on June 28. First baseman Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals, who was leading Derek Lee of the Chicago Cubs on June 28th, now trails by 49,110 votes. At shortstop, David Eckstein of the St. Louis Cardinals, who trailed Cesar Izturis of the Los Angeles Dodgers, now leads by 337,131 votes.

In the American League, Boston Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon, who was in fourth place in balloting on June 27, has moved past Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners by 126,556 votes.

[Lee should be leading.. But it wont even matter.. They are both starting, lol]

as a cardinals fan I am very happy about this, Lee deserves to be the starter, plus pujols will be the DH. plus now eckstein is leading, allthough i think it sholud be lopes of the reds ecksteins is more deserving then izturis. so congrats to Lee he deserves to start.

I voted 25X during each inning of today's game.

I had voted maybe 100 times before the game. I'll definitely get a total of 500 in today. Maybe a few more.

Keep it up.

Have you been keeping track of your total votes? I wouldn't be surprised if you were solely responsible for D's 40,000 vote differential.

I've given 450 today. Its half midnight and if I don't hit the hay I won't get to work tomorrow.

I love DLee, but I need a job too.

What to do? What to do?

No, I haven't. But except for the 5 days I was traveling, I've done a minimum of 100 votes a day since June 1st. Prior to that, I'd have done about 200 votes maybe.

Some days I've cast as many as 500, but I'd say that on average I was casting 200 votes a day.
