He's not going to get starts next year over Amaya and Kelly no matter how much he improves in the offseason. I just don't think you become a good catcher in an offseason he's probably already older than you'd like to develop into a MLB caliber one. The Cubs value how a catcher handles the staff too much (see letting Contreras walk as evidence). Mo is a DH.

Captain negative, so you're saying don't even try to fix his catching?

Definitely try to fix it, but you don't become a serviceable MLB catcher in one offseason. He has to also beat out two pretty solid MLB catchers.

Alright let's put up a crooked number here, as JDS would say

Oh, well, thought a bad idea to start Boyd on a short rest and it was.  Also, thinking game 2 is Cubs best shot at a split and maybe, Counsell was thinking along the same lines.  Doesn't really matter how the Brewers win by today, if the Cubs get game 2 it's on.  At least, the Illini won today, wasn't really that close.

The offense has to start showing something and they haven't done that all playoffs

Yea, 9 runs sucks but we have 2.

Why was Happ pumping his hands after hitting a home run down 9 to 1 ? Do that crap when you actually hit a meaningful hit.

Mo has been working on catching all season in AAA.   I'm sure they want him to be a catcher.  He'll have to wait until an injury or Kelly walks after next year in order to get much time there though.

He's probably going to be our DH next year at least against RHP so it is what it is.

And there it is. Someone said Happ hitting a homer would somehow have his haters comment against him. Right on que, Caesar responds.

Just their thing after every hit or homer. It was a muted version.

There’s plenty to complain about today, but this?

Seriously?

Again why is he celebrating a meaningless homer down 9 to 1?

Catchers get hurt often. Kelly or Amaya will go down next year. Between now and then, he will likely continue to work on his catching. He's one of only three catchers 22-and-under to play innings behind the plate in 2025. He's very, very young for his position. Him getting some innings and practice yet before he's an MLB catcher is the right choice.

Civale the Game 4 SP haha.

He might be. But even if not, he did a great job today eating innings. May come back to be a big deal at some point in the series.

When PCA throws his helmet when they're losing, people claim he's too emotional. Ian Happ hits a home run and feels good (regardless of the score) of hitting the baseball very far and he's a bad guy for being happy.

For a sport where people want to ensure real life umpires stay for the "human element" some people want the entire thing to be played by a bunch of robots.

It’s like a wide receiver dancing because he caught a touchdown and still losing by 50? I get it. It’s about having fun right?

I would go with Rea starting game 2 , even if it is for 12 outs or so . Then matchup with the pen . Taillon gets game 3 . Boyd shouldn’t start anymore . Yes , Civale would be in play to make Boyd’s next start
