Between the trade dealine and these three players getting healthy, the Cubs 25-man roster is going to look very different in early August.

Assad starts for Iowa on 7/30. He could be back with the Cubs on 8/05.

Taillon threw a 47-pitch bullpen session on 7/25. Could start in Iowa after Assad.

Amaya playing for Iowa starting 7/29. Looks to be back with the Cubs in and around 8/04... Don't know if the Cubs would go with three catchers, but I don't want to see McGuire go.

I wonder if this will factor into how hard Jed goes at making a deadline trade.

He better go hard.  Even with those 2 back you still need a TOR pitcher.  Not necessarily an ace but at least a 3.  Especially when you consider innings walls that Boyd and Horton may hit.

I think this is going to end up a frustrating trade deadline. There are way more buyers than sellers. So to get someone the Cubs are going to have to pay premium assets. I expect them to do something, but when they do, I also expect people to be very disappointed in how much they had to give up to get what they end up with. And with so many teams wanting similar things, I am not sure the Cubs will be able to get 2 players at the deadline. Too much competition. If they do, I would guess it will be guys none of us are even discussing and minor upgrades.

They'll absolutely give the "adding Taillon/Assad/Amaya is like adding 3 players at the deadline!!!" line as an excuse not to upgrade

I am sure they will. But if they do, and also mention the prices to add were just too steep for them, there is truth in that comment. I do expect them to do something. But anyone who thought they would get more than 3 guys is just not being realistic. There are too many teams buying and not enough to buy. If the Cubs can come away with 1 solid rotation piece, maybe a pen arm and someone like Castro I would say they did ok. I think it will be more likely be one  rotation piece then either a pen arm or a bench bat. Not both.

Could we shoot one of Justin Turner/Berti/Brujan into the Sun? I’d rather carry three catchers than any of those guys.

If management can be happy with one of Suzuki, Happ or Berti patrolling CF to give PCA a rest day, then there is no reason for Brujan to be on this roster beyond 7-31.
