He didn't pitch in the CWS. Something's up.

Nothing is wrong with him. Ole Miss decided to start Taylor Rabe their 1st game in Omaha because he’s been phenomenal for about 2 months now. Their typical “Friday Night” pitcher is Hunter Elliot. He’s a program legend type player that really has no future in professional baseball but they just bumped him back a game. Cade was getting the ball on Tuesday had Ole Miss advanced.

As far as Cade putting on Instagram “not done yet” I don’t buy it. I’ve heard it was an emotional post he made after a loss. He’s super close with the Ole Miss pitching coach. He literally has lived with him for the past year. I think that has played a part. I think his last 3-4 stars being mediocre has messed with his confidence. It could be a bit of a leverage play also. I don’t expect him back next year though. I’m pretty dialed in here, so if I hear anything more concrete I’ll post an update being that he’s projected in our range so often and several times has been projected to us.

I was going to get catty about the first two selections, but then read this part:

Welcome to Baseball America’s third staff draft of the season, which features writers from the BA staff getting together to make the first 75 selections of the 2026 MLB draft as if we were the ones calling the shots on draft day.

As a reminder, this is not a mock draft.

Schaffner seems like the sort of guy the Cubs would take, so there's that.

He threw live to UCLA hitters for the first time this week and I was able to see the pitch data from the 23-pitch outing. He sat 91-94 mph with very similar shape on his four-seamer to his regular-season stuff, understandably a few ticks below his normal 93-97 mph with a bit less extension as he ramps back up to full speed. His offspeed stuff also looked quite similar if not identical in shape, mostly a tick slower than usual, like his fastball.

Well Cade Townsend just bought a Condo in Oxford (Ole Miss) today. I still don’t think he’s coming back to school another year, but just throwing that out there.

You're seriously a few short steps away from sifting through his trash for clues on team visits and interest.

And I'm here for it.

I'm there with you, but a Cubs system consisting almost entirely of a crapload of really fun OFs by the end of the season is also a nice thing to dream on.

Imagine a system with Hartshorn, Kepley, Conrad, and Strosnider, and even guys like Lovich nipping at their heels.
