Over at our cousin site, Fish on First, managing editor Ely Sussman put together a list of players the Marlins might deal at the deadline. Is there anyone you want the Cubs to pursue?

FISHONFIRST.COM

Unlike last summer, the Marlins won't be tearing apart their entire roster to load up on prospects, but there are still opportunities for them to cash in on redundant players and sell...

Yeah I'm big on Cabrera.  Assuming the Twins don't get into a deep sell-off he's probably my favorite individual SP available.  I'd be willing to move guys for him that I wouldn't elsewhere.

Alcantara's been talked about extensively.  I tend to think it's probably best to stay away, but at the same time I would absolutely buy it if the Cubs' pitching development guys felt he's an easy fix.  I'm largely just shrugging my shoulders and appealing to authority here.

Otherwise I don't think I have much interest.  Henriquez looks *really* good, but I wouldn't want to pay the premium his team control will require.  Plus, the Cubs have Palencia and Hodge, plus potentially Brown or Horton as high octane young arms that will potentially be part of that playoff leverage innings mix.  I'd probably prioritize an arm that I have zero reservations about translating his ability into high leverage spots.

I've been coveting Cabrera for some time.  Someone will overpay for Alcantara.

Agree mj....Cabrera is NICE but we won't be his only suitors. Friggin' Dodgers said to be after Alcantara. Wish our minor league system was like LA. They just re-load every year:

I mean, over the last few years the Cubs have had a minor league system pretty much on par with the Dodgers. Both are still top 5-10 in baseball. It isn’t like the Cubs don’t produce. The difference is LA uses their prospects as assets to trade for higher priced players while the Cubs hold on to them or move them for “value” major leaguers. Hard to ding the Cubs for Sasaki, but Dodgers getting him gives them an advantage. And something the Cubs can’t compete with.

Fantastic, let the Dodgers waste their powder on Alcantara.

Yes, let them blow their wad in trading for Alcantara while the Cubs low key trade for Cabrera.
