There's going to be a lot of people hyper focused on that Caleb sack ignoring he was great the rest of the game.

I really hope not.  We wouldnt have been there without him.  But its also fair to say that but recognize that he failed on the OT possession.  I don't know why he broke down and scrambled so quickly on 1st down after showing such poise in the pocket almost all game.  And then over adjusted by holding onto the ball for 10 seconds and taking a crippling sack.

Not a big deal though, the season was over regardless and there's a learning curve he's going through.  Just would have been nice to actually feel happy about the Bears for one day because of his efforts.

the real retention question is if the offense can look good enough the rest of the way for management to expand the HC candidate pool to defensive guys with the "suggestion" that they keep brown or if it's going to be a complete turnover in the staff

In my eyes, Thomas Brown is real close to having done enough to be the OC next year, but that's 100% up to whoever they bring on as HC.

i think every viable HC candidate that is currently an OC is going to want to call plays unless they have some deep relationship with brown already

to me it's more like if you hire vrabel or like jesse minter would they keep brown

Caleb Williams after today

2356 Passing Yards 11 TD 5 INT 62.6 Comp% on pace for

3641 Passing Yards 17 TD 8 INT, the yardage right about where we hoped, the INT pace is very good the TD pace is a bit low, but certainly not numbers to be disappointed in.

Caleb is showing development. Yes, taking the sack on 2nd down in OT was bad, but he knows it was bad and he will learn from it. The 3rd down on Minnesota's ensuing possession, to sit back and rush 4 and play zone was so weak. Letting the Vikings convert that situation so easily, I knew it was over in that moment.

Rest of the NFC North better hope the Bears don't bear/stumble their way into competent coaching.  Caleb Williams has the goods to be the best, better than Love, McCarthy (eventually) and Goff.

Once again Eberflus coaching not to lose results in just that - losing.  There was no reason whatsoever to not go after Darnold and blitz the hell out of him.  Instead it was more rush 4 and soft zone, if the Bears were coached by most anyone they'd be 7-4 or 8-3 right now.  It's got to be apparent to Warren/Poles that Eberflus is not a good NFL HC.

Caleb being awesome + one loss closer to Flus getting canned = best case scenario, yeah??

Hell. Eberflus is going to get canned at this point. We need to feel good about our football team on occasion instead of getting kicked in the nuts every week. We can and should find the positives in each game and all that but I want to horsefeathers win once in awhile and I’m sure that Caleb could use a win too

I'm irrationally hoping that the stars align and Mason Graham ends up a Bear in 2025, I know it's not happening. Spend the Carolina 2nd on OL, Use their 2nd on a safety.

@UMFan83 Make this happen.

the niners are having a season from hell, kick the tires on shanahan

Or Stefanski. The 49ers and Browns would be crazy to let those coaches go no matter how bad their seasons are. But I hope they do.

we get it, you hate him

I dont hate Caleb, but i do hate how this team fantasticlly fails every year. Williams is playing ok for a rookie qb but his numbers across the board are lower 3rd, and in some catagories bottom 5. A competant HC would go a lonnnng way to making him a winning QB, but the front office cant even do that. Caleb, for all his talent, looks more like another Bears QB who will be bounced to the curb in 3 years because a new coaching staff will claim that he ",,,isnt my guy".  I'm just tired of that

its antaginistic given the circumstances, but it is also true

It’s true.  Shouldn’t be, but it is.  With a different coach/assistants he will start winning these.  With Eberflus, Williams will regress and wash out.

god I hope not, I'm so tired of that train. but if he survives, he'll be the one in several decades to do so

My fluency in NT vibespeak is growing.

I now understand that when people say stuff like this, they don't actually mean it, what they mean is "I really want to see Eberflus fired, and I feel like tying another desired outcome (Williams succeeding) to that will make it more probable or at least more likely to get universal agreement on my primary desire."

no, what they really mean (well, me in particular) is "I really want Eberflus to get his head out of his ass so he doesnt horsefeathers up ANOTHER game, but since thats too much to ask, I deeply fear the envitable and likely outcome, starting all over"

Shrug. Coaches come and go. Great QB play can sustain you for 15-20 years.  I'm infinitely more excited that our rookie QB put up 340 2/0 against the defense that terrified us all year leading up to this game, than I am mad about the specifics of losing the game.

Heck, if anything I would be mad at Poles for consistently prioritizing LB and DB over pass rush.
