The Macias thing didn't even dawn on me until they came back from commercial. I then realized that that couldn't have been the pitcher's spot, then it clicked that it was Dubois. I spent the rest of the game ranting about it. Even if you're going to pinch hit for Dubois there, why not Hollandsworth? Holla came into the game in LF anyways, IT MADE NO SENSE!

Does Dusty think Dubois didn't see any righties in the minors??

I wonder if Dubois can go 9 innings? He probably gets tired around the 7th.

I can't believe Dubois was pinch hit for with a guy who had fewer hits all season than Dubois had today.

That's only unbelievable if you assume we have a competent manager...

i didn't see the game today, but after reading....wow. i'm really glad i didn't.

i went back and .tv`d the end of the game so i could see dusty actually pinch hit with macias. i cannot fathom how a man can be as dumb as dusty. honestly - how can you pinch hit for a guy that has more hits in TODAY'S GAME than the guy who will hit for him? it makes no sense at all.

all i know is that i seriously hope today's game has put dusty on the hot seat. i think firing dusty is the only way we've got a shot at the playoffs.

I think this team is going to have to tank pretty hard to put Dusty on the hotseat. This is the same garbage Dusty has been doing since before he became a cub.

My friend nearly had a stroke when that happened. He was yelling at Dusty (well, from the UD box seat) and a doofus in front of us was trying to tell us that it was all good because Macias is a switch-hitter.

THEN after Macias grounded out, he turned around and said, "see, at least he advanced the runner!"

Yep, that came in handy. Who could have foreseen Burnitz K-ing?

As an aside, I was in the bathroom when Lee doubled and heard Santo say, "Well, I'm glad he's standing on second and not on third right now." Poor Ron.

But he's white...and it was cold, the man was in his element!

I nominate this jewel as post of the year / decade / century / millenium / all time :D

It's called playing the percentages.

Likewise. You found the perfect expressions for each of them. The look on poor Dubois' face ...

Thanks. Dusty pushed me over the top today. I'm going to miss the occasional states of relative sanity.

Set aside Macias hitting for Dubois for a second.

We got a man on second with one out. Torres is being hit hard. He won't face Burnitz, he probably will face Dubois ... he might give him an intential pass but he will stay in the game because we have R-L-R situation and none of them are slugs.

So?

Crusty the Baker hands McClendon a gift.

I'm glad that I made it a point to not be so emotional over the games. If I got as worked up now as I did a few years ago I would be either in a hospital or dead by now.

I like to think that I've been pretty neutral on Baker over the past 12 months. But I have to say, him showing up at the ballpark lately has been a bad move.

Tim, perhaps the Cubs need a new manager to move in another direction. The team has a decent amount of inexperienced but promising position players at the major league level or near there. Some of the youngsters are ready to take key bullpen roles as well. Dusty just isn't the man to manage a franchise like that.

I don't know if I'm ready to give up on this season, but Dusty no longer fits this team. Using Macias for Dubois and Remmy for Wuertz this week is proof enough for me.

I don't get worked up over games. I really don't. Baseball is only a distraction for me. Still, with Torres on the ropes, you leave the RH hitter in with the LH bat following.

Come on, Crusty the Baker didn't use Holly because McClendon would have countered with a lefty. Pulling JD for Macias allowed McClendon to make the change one bat earlier.

He let Torres off the hook and made McClendon's job easier.
