We’re eliminated and Counsell just had to pinch hit Wisdom for Vazquez.. maybe let the guy keep trying for his first career hit.

Yeah, I didn't like that move at all.  Especially considering how unlikely it is that Wisdom is actually going to get a hit.  Let Vazquez try to get the monkey off his back.

Nice for the Phillies, would be cool to win a division title. But Hoyer is so good at his job that he’s not assessed by the lack of playoff success

Love watching other teams clinch division titles on the Cubs own premium cable channel. Especially nice knowing the revenue for this pointless channel goes towards helping the Ricketts family buy more of Wrigleyville and not helping them build a better team.

Maybe they're trying to tank.

3rd in revenue, 7th in payroll, 16th in wins, 1st in our hearts.

Apparently Counsell squashed the idea of of Caissie or any of the other hitter prospects coming up with the minor league season over.  Not unreasonable, I assume they don't want to burn the 40 man spot early just to get him like two starts, but definitely annoying.

They're gonna have some 40-man squeeze again this offseason I assume so I get it, not worth it for only a few games.  Nice to give Kilian a look I guess.  Too bad he got wrecked again.

I love how they went on and on about how the revenue from these ventures were going to be invested back into the team and were 4 years in and they are just counting on us to forget those statements or not put up that much of a stink about it. I know the RSN bubble burst while Marquee was being launched but the Ricketts have bought 2/3rds of Wrigleyville, did their renovation project, have their tv station, new sportsbook, etc.

The gap between the first two is Ricketts fault.

Second gap is Hoyers fault.

The last one is all on me.

Don't forget the concerts, football games, hockey games, Christmas villages, hotel, apartments, bars, and corporate function rentals.

If there was a way for accounting for all the extra revenue Wrigleyville generates for the Ricketts I'd guess that they'd probably be close to the Yankees.

Hoyer has  claimed 2 relievers off waivers today, getting that early start for next season cheap bullpen additions

😅

Just to try and get ahead of this being a thing, Hoyer has been very aggressive is churning through relievers, has found a couple potentially reliable guys in Miller and Lopez for next year and has otherwise pretty quickly dumped them as soon as they proved they weren't effective, and ultimately like at least 6 of your 8 relievers should be 'cheap' and so these are totally harmless, potentially helpful moves.

The Cubs 40 man roster is currently at 46 with the guys on the 60-day IL.

Of those 46, here are the ones I find to be somewhere between definitely gone and easily replaceable:

  1. Hendricks
  2. Wingenter
  3. Mastrobuoni
  4. Luis Vazquez
  5. Wisdom
  6. Smyly
  7. Bethancourt
  8. Colton Brewer
  9. Alzolay
  10. Almonte
  11. Brennen Davis
  12. Madrigal
  13. Killian
  14. Herget
  15. Hollowell
  16. Mervis

That takes us to 30 names. Other names on there that are certainly not set in stone to be on the roster (trade bait?)

  1. Wesneski
  2. Tauchman
  3. Bellinger
  4. Keegan Thompson
  5. Merryweather
  6. Palencia
  7. Arias
  8. Alcantara (I'd love to keep him, but given our OF situation and his potential as a trade chip...)
  9. Canario

That's down to 21 names that I would consider near locks to be on the Cubs' 40-man next year. Yes, plenty of those guys will stick around, but there is obviously plenty of room to cut bait with a guy or two and get Owen Caissie some ABs in the majors

I think it's less the room they'll have in November and more the room they have right now.  It's not immensely valuable to keep stashing reliever that hit waivers, but it's also not immensely valuable to get Caissie 20 at bats or whatever.

There's also a lot of personnel stuff we don't think of.  Like I saw on Twitter yesterday Happ is damn close to a couple career highs, including homeruns.  So it's easy for us to say "just shut it down for the year dude" but for him he'd like to get those 20 ABs and try and run into that last dong he needs.

Yup.  It's big now for teams to buy up everything around the stadium because that doesn't get calculated into revenue sharing.  Lots of money to be made there.

And we can see now that Theo left in whole or in large part because he wanted a piece of the ownership of a team and he couldn't get it from Ricketts, that's where the real money is.  Theo is now part owner of the Red Sox, That's his childhood team so i'm happy for him,

Baseball is a business and not a charity, I don't have any issue with owners like Ricketts making lots of money.  But at least get close to ranking in payroll what the team ranks in revenue.  If you don't that's just disrespecting your customers.
