It's a bit weird for the Cubs to have not announced probables yet.  They usually do it the night before even on off days.  I wonder if there's a rotation shuffle coming in conjunction with roster expansion.

I would bet we get Shota, Taillon or Assad, then whoever comes up from Iowa on Sunday.  I'm betting Sunday gets weird though because Saturday is probably getting rained out, so you'll have expanded rosters and then probably no extra player for the DH since they'll have 2 extras anyway.

I wonder if he's hoping to get like 4 innings from Wicks and then empty the pen with the likelihood there's no game Saturday.

I'm seeing, Shota, Assad, Jaimo

My hope for Wicks for the rest of the season is he lays a firm claim to a rotation slot going into 2025.  Granted, I get the feeling the Cubs end up acquiring a SP and trading Wicks or Assad for a bat in the offseason, but I'd rather not have the Cubs in a position of desperation to shore up that last rotation spot.

I was posting about this in the minor league forum. It should be Imanga or Assad going. Roberts looks to be going on the DL, so that's the spot for Wicks.

Why would they jump Imanaga? Maybe to get past the weather?!?

This.

He comes in has a good September and takes Hendricks spot going into 2025.

But someone has to go to the 60 day DL, or get DFA to get Wicks on the team.

Wicks will be up today or early September regardless, so the roster spot move is coming.

Wingenter would be an easy DFA for me. I don't think Roberts would be a 60-day DL candidate. Something could be done with Nido, too.

Update: I forgot about Hollowell; so yeah, the 40-man roster isn't an issue.

It's definitely not an issue, but it still needs to happen.

Nido will probably be their position player callup for September.

Maybe they don't want Wicks in that weather?

Back in the day, I liked seeing 4 or 5 kids brought up for the September expansion. It would give us a chance to possibly see some of the future hopefuls

We have Wicks, Brown, Assad for the #4 and 5 spots next year and i assume they'll probably add another SP this winter.  Assad would be nice as a swing guy and beef out out the middle innings in the pen.  I like Brown in the rotation but I thought he looked promising in the pen too if we're healthy in the rotation.

I'm pretty concerned about Cade Horton.  Around the day the Cubs drafted him I said on the PSD boards that I really didn't like his mechanics and he seemed to use a lot of his arm in his delivery and sort of short-arms it a bit to try to protect the elbow wothout getting the full extension.  Didn't have much of a stride either.  No idea if he's fixed any of this yet with the Cubs.

In high school I popped my UCL while arm-wrestling some dude during class and did the exact same thing when i threw a baseball for years afterwards.  I still need Tommy John and i'll never get it (true story, Canadian healthcare isn't as good as you hear haha).

I said at the time that the Cubs should trade Horton when he gets healthy and is dealing.  Might be too late now.  Huge risk/reward with him for sure.

Time of year i wish i had bought the MLB.TV package where you can watch all the teams instead of just the Cubs.  Would be nice to catch the Braves/Phillies.

What is this obsession with the game being rained out tomorrow. My weather app shows 15% chance of rain during the hours the game is scheduled. Even when the chance of rain is 50% to 60% I don’t feel trams plan staring pitchers with the thought the game won’t be played. Maybe my app is wrong. Very well could be. But I do not think it is a foregone conclusion there will not be a game tomorrow. And I feel you have been saying this for days. Weathermen make mistakes on weather when they are predicting a few hours out. You have been calling for the rain out since early this week. I hope you are wrong.

It's apparently changed significantly since I looked yesterday.  It was showing 80% chance of storms from like 2:00 pm on through the evening.  Bully for me since I'll be in DC.

All good. To be honest, I wasn’t sure my weather app was right. Hopefully you get to see a game tomorrow. Sounds like it could/should happen.
