Is he really a serious threat to get claimed?  If no one claims him do the Cubs just keep him?  I forget how it works.

Yeah since he wasnt designated for assignment, the cubs can retain him if they pull him off waivers.

NO IM WRONG. he was placed on outright waivers, hes done as a cub but can pitch until the waivers clear or he is claimed

Either way, that explains why its not strange that they did it during the game.  He can easily still pitch tonight unless claimed over the next few minutes.

I recall that last year now, I believe Giolito made a start during the period he was on waivers even though everyone expected him to be claimed.

I saw this and checked the score expecting to see its like 12-9 or something but nope, still 12-4 as I type this.

Didn't Jansen get claimed by a team they were playing the other day and he ended up playing for both teams in same game
