Anyone still think I'm nuts for thinking Paredes may not be their starting 3rd basemen on opening day ?

Since July 1st...

18 hits 128 AB .140 Avg

11 XBH 5 HR

26 BB 23 K

His high point of season was on June 5th..

.298/ .383/ .498

He's currently slashing

.233/ .343/ .419

I think that they'll keep him until a prospect forces the issue.

Really don’t like that safety-ish squeeze call with Happ at the plate. Just let him swing. Bad play by PCA hesitating getting back to the base, though. Almost looked like he was trying to bait a throw back.

Very happy that Amaya has really turned it around this year both as a hitter and behind the plate. But it does make it a little more difficult to decide what to do with catcher this offseason. It’s clear we need to upgrade there but do we need a clear starting catcher or a 1a to Amaya’s 1b?

FWIW, his batting line since July 7th is below.  Only 72 PA so obviously he needs to show it for longer but he really does seem to be having better ABs, driving the ball more and overall just looking more confident out there

.313 .362 .516

Lmao is that his first caught stealing of his career?  Definitely not smart baserunning there by PCA. Disappointing and really hurts the inning.

if we turn around and lose this game, remember that play

This year. 2/4 last season I believe.

My God we’re gonna have to watch Neris pitch again aren’t we…

Have to get his 60 appearances. He'll probably pull up lame on appearance #60 and the Cubs will be on the hook for $9mil

Whoops yeah forgot about his follies at the end of last season.

Neris threw 33 pitches yesterday. I really hope they use that as an excuse to use someone like Tyson Miller in the 9th, assuming they still have the lead.

Miller already pitched. I’m guessing Lopez gets the 9th if they still have the lead? And who the horsefeathers is going to pitch tomorrow? Gonna need length from Shota.

Nice job keeping them off the board, but those walks still hurt. Have to go 1-2-3 or Vlad will come up with a chance to at least tie the game.

I'm sure it's happened at some point, but it feels like the Cubs haven't had a clean 7/8/9 innings with a lead in like 3 years

That prospect will likely be Shaw

There’s some question if he can handle third defensively. The trade for Paredes signaled to me that Jed may have decided that answer is no.

I think it was more for this season and upgrading over the trio of Morel/Mastrobuoni/Madrigal.

And using their first two draft picks on third basemen.

He certainly hasn't made an immediate impact, but Morel is at .191/.296/.357 for the season and .135/.250/.250 since the trade plus 3 errors in 7 games @ 2B (his "stronger" position).

This team has toyed with us all year long but if they can win tomorrow then they really do have an incredibly easy stretch coming up, with Detroit, Miami, Pittsburgh, Washington, Pittsburgh.  I don't expect much, but they have a chance

i am lazy. someone find out what their bullpen era is without hector neris during this time.

If I'm mathing right I think 1.65?

Although Neris has a 2.93 ERA over that time with peripherals to match.  Yesterday aside, he's been very good since that horrific week in June with the Rays and Giants.

Since June 27 with Neris - 1.95 ERA (32 ER in 147.1 IP)

Neris since June 27 - 2.93 ERA (5 ER (3 yesterday) in 15.1 IP)

Since June 27 without Neris - 1.84 ERA (27 ER in 132 IP)
