Prior feels great and Kerry threw great:
AP[/url]"]Prior, who said that he understands the Cubs' move even if he doesn't like it, will be activated and start against San Diego on April 12, barring any setbacks.

"I feel like I can pitch right now," he said, "but obviously they want to give me another start, build up some endurance, and that's fine. I feel great today so I'm not worried."

He pitched in a minor league game Friday, giving up seven hits, including a pair of homers, over four innings. But the elbow didn't bother him at all, he said.

"Basically, I'm a week behind. That's how I guess you can equate it," Prior said. "I stopped throwing for about seven days, and I'm about seven days behind, so that's where I'm trying to work up to right now."

Prior said the location on his curve ball needs some work, though.

"Some were up when I wanted to throw strikes, some of them were up when I wanted to throw them down," he said. "That's just a matter of fine-tuning in the bullpen. I'm not really worked about any of that right now."

Meanwhile, Kerrie Wood pitched three innings of minor league game Sunday.

"They tell me he was awesome," Baker said.

Tune-up: Wood tuned up for his first regular season start by throwing for the Cubs' Triple-A team against the Angels' minor leaguers on Sunday. Wood gave up two hits over three innings, did not walk a batter and struck out four. He threw 34 pitches in the outing.

"They told me Wood was awesome," Baker said. "He threw the ball very well, from my understanding. He had a line drive off his leg, but he was fine."

Wood is on schedule to start the Cubs' home opener April 8 against Milwaukee.

wonder why he only threw 34 pitches when he just got done throwing 90+ last week.

That was the plan all along. They only wanted him to get in a light workout to get ready for Friday.

And for the record, either the AP or Fox Sports corrected the spelling of "Kerry."

The Cubs said today that Prior will indeed start for Iowa in Albuquerque on Thursday and will look to throw up to 80 pitches.

According to this, Prior is on target to start April 12 if his game against the Isotopes goes well.

How Prior performs will determine if he'll pitch April 12 against San Diego at Wrigley Field, as is tentatively planned. After throwing 31 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday, Prior said he felt good and expects to have a pitch count of around 80 for his start.

Borowski's latest x-rays showed just about no sign of the break. The only thing was there was a calcium deposit from, supposedly, all of the milk he was drinking. He could start throwing as early as Monday.

Prior threw a side session today. 30 pitches and supposedly looked good. Mark said he felt real good. Expect a decision on Tuesday's start later today.

Borowski played toss with Mark O'Neal today. Things are looking good.

Yup.

One correction: The decision will be announced tomorrow.

They just showed some clips of his side session. It was nice to see him pitching at Wrigley. I don't mind whatever decision they make; he has shown signs of rust and problems in the first inning the last few starts he made, so if he goes back to AAA, I won't complain. I'd rather have Prior ready and not beaten up a bit because he wasn't quite ready. Obviously, I wouldn't complain if Prior starts Tuesday.

Any updates on Walker?

Knee ligament strain according to WSCR.

That was just on the first report. Since then, they are only saying that it is "a knee injury with no other information available at this time". :( I'm more than a little worried about the injury. J Hood said that he might be out for a while. Granted, this was right after the first report but it still is a little unsettling.

On the plus side, Frank Thomas is going to be out much longer than expected, at least till mid-June, and will have to have at least 100 minor league at bats before they bring him up.

Will someone like Lewis get called up to play 2nd while Walker is out?

Im sure Hairston will get all the playing time if Walker is out.

Yeah, I remembered that after I posted. I'm just glad we won't be seeing Neifi get starts at second.

True. Hairston will start. But I think someone like Lewis or Cedeno might be called up as a backup, much like Brendan Harris got some time last year.

I think the fact that they used Rusch today for extended work gives a pretty good indication that they are planning to start Prior Tuesday unless he has a major setback.

Are you kidding me??

I don't think he is... I dunno. I don't really care about the White Sox... but I take pride in the fact that we're not bitter about the rivalry like they are. They're Chicago's red-headed step-child. They hate us. I don't really see myself or most Cubs fans hating the Sox or even caring about them though.

For me, the rivalry is like, "Meh."

If they win, good for them. Just as long as we win when we play them.
