Remember when we were all on Rickett's side for driving those rooftop owners out because we were under the delusion there were going to be massive new revenue streams from the park renovation? Those were good optimistic times.

I'm no Ricketts apologist, but the rooftops were fine when it was a few dudes from the building grilling on a Webber and drinking beers. When they installed seats and started charging money it moved into horsefeathers territory and the Cubs had every right to do what they did.

In general though, horsefeathers the Ricketts.

Oh they were ghouls too for sure, though I did have fun going to them, but in comparison to Ricketts.....

Always found it odd that the Cubs cared what the rooftops did.  You have a ballpark in a neighbourhood and neighbours will watch, its fun.

Watch, profit to the tune of $125 a pop, same diff.

123 year old buildings.  This is pretty dumb.

There's nothing historic or otherwise noteworthy about these buildings. Moreover, places across the globe have zero issue with knocking over buildings that are hundreds, if not thousands, of years old.

Blow 'em up.

Perhaps I'm incorrectly remembering this, It wasn't about what they were doing it was about the Cubs wanting to install video boards to bring Wrigley into the 21st century and the rooftop owners playing hardball about the contracts because their view would be obstructed which, iirc, The Ricketts tried to offer them a buyout or some kind of appeasement and they kept being dicks about it. The Ricketts, to their credit, tried to do things the nice way but the rooftops acted like they couldnt so squat for nearly two years so The Ricketts just built the video boards anyways and I think the rooftops quickly learned they couldn't financially complete with them in court. I think they ultimately settled but I'm sure it was for far less than what was initially offered.

The Ricketts suck ass, but really before they won the world series they really were the owners I think we all wanted them to be. Ever since they've been like every other billionaire ass bag owner.

Well I can remember the Andy MacPhail Cubs putting up green blockers along the fence all around the back of the bleachers to obstruct the rooftop view.  Did the Cubs want a cut of the rooftops revenue?  I can't remember.

The Cubs should be able to do whatever they want to their ballpark without regard of the rooftops, and the rooftops should be able to have a view of the game if there is one.  I don't get why the Cubs would feel threatened in any way unless they're being super cheap.  Not sure what kind of court case the rooftops could ever have against the Cubs since the Cubs should be able to do whatever they want to their own property.

Yeah, I can't get worked up about this.  As much as we want everything to stay the same forever and to have the Wrigley area be what we remember it as 40 years ago, that ship has already sailed.  Nobody will actually miss these old buildings.
