all of the big scoring games are a little fraudulent, except ironically maybe Luka's 70-pointer (he went like 25-33 from the field lol)

Even Wilt, they say the other team was intentionally fouling late to let him get to 100. Kobe and Bam both went crazy and then got the "horsefeathers it lets see what happens if we leave him out there" treatment. I will say that the Wizards were really working on Bam, a lot of those fouls were legit. To me the bigger issue is Kobe's 81 still looked like basketball in the 4th. Bam's looked like LA Fitness ball. Devin Booker had a 70-point night and it got pretty scammy late too.

Looking it up, I forgot Mitchell and Dame both had 70-pointers that look real. Bam's real problem is he beat Kobe and the shots he beat Kobe on were gimmick free throws with the Heat fouling the Wizards up 30 to get Bam the ball back faster. I dont know, it was cool to see but I dont know that anyone is gonna care too much

Dame’s was in like 36 minutes too. Mitchell’s was an OT game, so a little extra opportunity but pretty badass anytime a player is on the court for 50 minutes.

Its like you're inferring that I believe this simply because I referenced the skepticism around it. I truly dont care.

Uh, no, it was just me posting a fun listen about a goofy thing.

Like, I didn't even reply to you.

The second half stats is what stands out to me. Kobe had a really good first half (26 points on 10-18) but they were down 14 because the rest of the team sucked. Then he just got really hot in the second half and kept shooting (27 points on 11-15 including 4-5 from 3 in the third). Then in the 4th, win secured, he went for 80. Lakers were only up 7 with 7 minutes left and Kobe was at 59.

Bam had a ridiculous first quarter (31 on 10-16 including 5-8 from 3 and only 6-7 FTs). That didn’t carry over though and it seems like he just kept chucking. He was 3-8 in the 2nd and half his points were at the line. 4-11 in the third and 10 of 19 points at the line. 3-8 in the 4th and 14 of 21 points at the line.

That he set the record for most FTA in a game and it wasn’t a Hack a Shaq situation is ridiculous. I’m sure plenty of the fouls were legit but nobody should be shooting 43 free throws in a game.

All that being said, credit to him and 83 points is still nuts regardless of how it happens.

defector would be great if they never gave their weak-ass bluesky opinions on sports

There's no WNBA thread, and starting one would just make it die on the vine, so I'll put this here. The WNBA finally caved to the players' demands, so the season will start on time (you may have noticed women wearing the "Pay us what we're worth" shirts the past year).

The salary difference for players will be...significant.

That's a pretty wild jump. Very much deserved but still wild.

Betting against James Harden in Game 6 or 7 is such easy money. Already looking forward to doing it again on Sunday.

I might be overreacting, but can we just make Thunder-Spurs a best of 13 and call that the finals? Thunder are going to smoke the Lakers without Luka (and would probably roll them with Luka). If Ant is out the Spurs are going to smoke the Wolves. Boston seemed legit with Tatum back but they're out. Detroit is going to a Game 7 against the 8 seed. Nobody trusts Harden/the Cavs. So that leaves the Knicks I guess.

I think the Knicks could beat the Spurs.  Not so sure about the Thunder.

But I think things are more chaotic in general than ever before.  I don't think anything is a foregone conclusion.

OKC, Lakers, and Toronto are the only teams left who have won a title in the last 7 years.  If anyone else wins this year, it will be 8 different winners in 8 years.

So on Thursday the Hawks trailed by 47 points at the half, which is the most points a team has trailed at half in a playoff game ever (previous mark was 41). Record for any game is 50 points.

Then on Friday, Orlando scored 19 points in a half, which is the fewest points in a half in playoff history (previous record was 23). Record for any game is 16.

12 blocks for VW and they lost yet. Gotdamn.

Couldn't watch because it was on Peacock, but did Gobert just do a job on him? 5-17 shooting including 0-8 from 3.
