CC pulls Steele mid-inning, preventing him (AGAIN) from any chance for his first win of the season

He was at 96 pitches.  I would hope the Cubs manager doesn't care at all about a player's personal stats over what he thinks is the best decision for the win column both short and longterm, which includes pitcher health.

PCA has looked as bad at the plate as I can remember anyone looking.  Swing and miss at spin and velocity, and in every possible zone.  Really rooting for him to develop some kind of value at the plate, because the defense is spectacular.

Below-average hit tool, average to below average power, below average plate discipline.  The elite speed will raise his AVG, OBP, and SLG.  Maybe eventually something like .250/.305/.440 with around 15 HR, stretching an extra base out of a bunch of singles and doubles, and bunch of SB.  So I think there's a path to being above-average offensively.

He still needs lots of PA's I think, he just turned 22 and lost 2 years to COVID and injury.

Kekw.

I understand you like a prospect, and hope that they will develop and be better at some point, or have a more fruitful career; however, when both of you talk about ISO, you might actually want to look at the numbers. Granted, Billy didn't really get MLB playing time until he was 23 vs PCA at 22 - BUT Billy Hamilton at 23 actually put up more ISO & SLG than PCA has put up. It's pretty fair comp at this point, if anything its unfair to Hamilton because he was better.

Are you comparing their MLB time in which PCA has put up 20% of the PA that Billy had so far? In an ERA where the league OPS is 700? t's not a fair comp really at all. PCA has never posted an ISO under 200 at a level as a Cub. Hamilton's highest ISO at any level was 138. He was nothing but a slap hitter, hitting about 60% ground balls.

The only similarity is the speed.

Yes, I am. Hamilton didn’t have the swing path that let him artificially take advantage of crappy Milb pitching like PCA can. It’s not the flex you’re making it out to be. Even with 60% gb, he’s still out slugging PCA. It just is what it is.

It's not even close to the comparison you think it is and this comment is ridiculous. Bill Hamilton actually has a pretty steep launch angle but his career-high hard-hit rate is 20% and that came on just 84 batted balls. When he played full seasons his hard-hit rate was 11%, his average exit velo was 83. Billy Hamilton was always just weak.

You're making an extremely lazy comparison and think you have a 22 year old pegged.

Then why is he getting significantly out slugged by Billy Hamilton against better competition? Ffs dude. You can love a prospect, but don’t wear blinders. PCA needs to step up and prove it. He simply hasn’t yet. Until he does everything is just conjecture. Maybe one way he could boost his slug is not trying to bunt for a hit every other horsefeathers plate appearance, and maybe he would stop if he was more confident in his hit tool.

Currently, PCA is a poor man’s Billy Hamilton. Hopefully he develops further, but he simply hasn’t yet. Idk know why this comp infuriated you to the response of multiple snarky posts, but here we are. 23 yr old Billy Hamilton was better than 22 PCA. It’s just the way it is.
